A Look at Archer

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Wasn't kind of fucked up what Scotty did to Porthos?

If taken seriously, it means they don't take risks, they don't learn, they don't grow, and ultimately, they will rationalize away their failures. It's just about the worst advice you could give short of "those silica gel packets are actually very tasty".
Indeed, it's just as bad as Man of Steels Pa Kent's advice of never use your powers to help others, even if it's a drowning bus full of kids.

Oh God, I checked Archer's biography and it says that he did become President of the Federation:

(Sigh) F[RED ALERT]g Archer.
Huh. I did not know that. I wonder if it was on his watch that Vulcan got blowed up.

According to this site.

No. That happened in 2233, 41 years after he was out of office.
And he would have been 121 if he was still alive. The 'Admiral Archer' referred to by Scotty would be his child or grand child most likely. (And really unlikely to be Porthos)

No, it's been confirmed that Scotty is talking about him.

People grow to be pretty old in Trek.

"The 2009 Star Trek film briefly references Archer, as Montgomery Scott receives punishment stemming from an incident involving a transporter and "Admiral Archer's prized Beagle." There was some confusion as to if this actually referred to Jonathan Archer himself as this would make him 141 years old. Star Trek writer Bob Orci went on record to clear up the issue, "Admiral Archer is a reference to the Archer we all know and love, and yes he would be over 100, which is a likely life expectancy in a futuristic space faring race of humans (as depicted by McCoy’s (DeForest Kelley, playing the 137 year old Admiral) appearance in The Next Generation.)" Dogs>Aliens.
General Order 15: "No flag officer shall beam into a hazardous area without armed escort."
Not sure how that applies.

Darn, was thinking of 24.

Man, a lot of horrific cthulhoid threats have probably escaped now from planets I meant to blow up.

A big problem with this show is that he is an allegory for Bush pretty much.

Sad thing is, a few years later, they were writing Terra Nova, and that show, while having similar plots, did a lot better with having everything tie in continuity wise.

For me the failing of Star Trek Enterprise was it's execution and executive meddling, a lot of the ideas in the early seasons are good, like the hostilities between the Vulcans and Andorians, and seeing early Starfleet exploration, but then you have executives pushing for a time travel sub-plot with no long term plan, and insist that the crew use things like the Phasers and Transporters that undermine the whole point of making the series a prequel, plus still having the same writers and directors from the last two 7 year long series that are not only burned out but were never comfortable writing outside of what they were used to, and you end up with a series about a ship bumbling around space with no purpose, helmed by the most inept and unlikable Captain, and maned by a crew that are either more unlikable characters, one note characachers, wasted potentials, and literally the worst Doctor in the galaxy.
"I think, when one has been angry for a very long time, one gets used to it. And it becomes comfortable like…like old leather. And finally… it becomes so familiar that one can't remember feeling any other way."

No, then he'd need Mayweather whispering how a war with Andoria would be good.
