Ah yes. I fell right into your trap: You come in here and act like an idiot. Then we treat you like an idiot. Then...
I feel like there should be a string of question marks and then “profit”, but it’s probably just you inhaling over a bottle of rubber cement.
Really, there was a pretty decent discussion here, but I imagine that went over your head, much like most things that don’t involve four characters in bright-color outfits with geometric shapes above their heads.

Because people lie/exaggerate when they have something to gain? Like, for example, Lana Wachowski who has spent every waking Twitter moment since the right adopted the red pill as their symbol losing her mind over it. The thing is friend, is that the following conversation, the one that is so often used to prove that the Wachowski's were referring to gender and transpeople, can indeed be used to describe any ideology you think is controlling the world and that every institution is in on except for you and your buddies. Feminism, capitalism, socialism, fascism, religion, round earthers. Doesn't matter. Its just that the right managed to steal it first and Lana hates them for it.Rocketboy1313 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 5:34 pm I don't know what level of dumb minutia you think you are debating.
The symbolism is so obvious and naked that it is obnoxious to try and split hairs over it in some attempt to strip it of the underlying message.
I can't believe this is 8 pages of responses beyond the obvious of, "yeah, it always has been".
Morpheus: I see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. Ironically, that's not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?
Neo: No.
Morpheus: Why not?
Neo: Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life.
Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Neo: The Matrix.
Morpheus: Do you want to know…what it is?
[Neo nods]
Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work. When you go to church. When you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: [leans in closer to Neo] That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind. [pause] Unfortunately, no one can be…told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. [opens pillbox, empties contents into his palms, outstretches his hands] This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill [opens his right hand revealing blue pill], the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill [opens his left hand revealing red pill], you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. [Neo, after a pause, reaches for the red pill] Remember: all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more. [Neo takes the red pill]...Follow me.

"This story is an allegory for my life"
"Wait a second, that story can be about anybody's life. You're just mad that other people want it."

It's easy to understand why somebody would be upset if a theme in their story became taken as a mantle by people who hate them. I'd hate it if a plot device in one of my stories became a rallying cry for people who say that bisexual men aren't real.

The author of the work is a trans person who said the movie was about transgenderism.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 4:20 pm Because people lie/exaggerate when they have something to gain? And you think she is just saying that in retrospect because she dislikes wingnuts coopting her movie for their stupid worldview? And refuting them is the thing she has to gain?
So, rather than look at the creators of the work, the obvious symbolism which has been pointed out many times prior to "red pill" being a term used by right wing chuds, and the stuff that was in the production notes about a transgender character being in the script till being cut... You are instead trying to pick apart the script?
I repeat my earlier point, the film is so obviously what it is that trying to pick it apart to argue this is fucking baffling. You sound like a loon.

Re: The Matrix is a Trans Allegory now
Is it that obvious though that it is a trans allegory originally though? When it first came out before the W sisters were W brothers and all we got that it could be a trans allegory was the character Switch?
I mean it can fit anything because it's not hitting over your head with a certain allegory. It can easily be anything. It can be a vegan allegory. It can be a religion allegory. It can be patriarchy.
At its base, it's about breaking out of a system with agents chasing you to either get back into the system or eliminated from getting more people out of the system. At its base, it really about personal truth versus society truth, but personal truth is the real truth.

I got nothing to say here.
Re: The Matrix is a Trans Allegory now
I mean we can look at it now. The directors themselves say it's a trans allegory and we will believe it because they themselves are trans. So it seems so obvious now. But back in 1999-2000? It was a allegory about anything you could think of.
I got nothing to say here.

Re: The Matrix is a Trans Allegory now
Well, I was 14, so my ability to think about it was limited to "Cool".
Same with my thoughts on "Blade".
But considering how much queer work has specifically looked at the movie at the time, yeah it was pretty obvious to people who knew what they were looking for. But the fact that other things could be read into it is almost certainly why it had such broad appeal, like the X-Men.
A movie about being true to one's self to break out of a system can be interpreted differently, this one doesn't need to be.

Yes. Trans people are trans people even when they aren't ready to be out and face the dangers that come with that.
