Its finally happened, we have a Star Wars Sequels main cast member saying what most of us already think about this dumpster fire. TL;DR, whilst Kathleen was all about ''The Force is Female'' and making strong female characters the forefront of the saga... she, Rian and JJ made his character a janitor who effectively played second fiddle to the rest of the cast. He also had things to say about Kellie Marie Tran (Rose) being thrown under a bus and even Oscar Issac (Poe) not ending up being all that much in the end. In their drive to create ''The Rey Skywalker Saga'' they essentially created a whites-only club.
In his own words: 'You knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver. But when it came to Kellie Marie Tran and John Boyega, you knew fuck all. What they want you to say is ''it was a great experience'' nah, nah, nah... i'll take that deal when it is a great experience. They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Lets be honest: Daisy knows this. Adam Knows this. Everyone knows this.'

Finn could have been the next Han or Luke but ended up being treated as the next 3PO.
They could have at let him keep ONE of his love interests.
Disney needs to give him his own movie where he becomes a Jedi.

It's worth reading the whole interview

Star Wars fans don't emerge out of this well.Other directors agreed. And, in 2014, he found himself brought into the Star Wars fold by JJ Abrams. Cue his reveal as a conflicted Stormtrooper once known as FN-2187, an absurd attempted boycott, the fourth highest-grossing film of all time and, laterally, the millions that enabled Boyega to surprise his parents with their own brand-new house three years ago. Yet, again, this is another instance when Boyega seems keen to revise the public record on how something really played out. Whereas previously he responded to the flagrantly racist commentary that greeted his casting in The Force Awakens with bullishness (“Get used to it ”, as his since-deleted Instagram response post had it), now he is keen to discuss the lasting psychic wounds that an ordeal like that leaves.
“I’m the only cast member who had their own unique experience of that franchise based on their race,” he says, holding my gaze. “Let’s just leave it like that. It makes you angry with a process like that. It makes you much more militant; it changes you. Because you realise, ‘I got given this opportunity but I’m in an industry that wasn’t even ready for me.’ Nobody else in the cast had people saying they were going to boycott the movie because [they were in it]. Nobody else had the uproar and death threats sent to their Instagram DMs and social media, saying, ‘Black this and black that and you shouldn’t be a Stormtrooper.’ Nobody else had that experience. But yet people are surprised that I’m this way. That’s my frustration.”

He sure is putting them to task on this trilogy.
..What mirror universe?
Re: John Boyega (Finn) vs Star Wars
His mention of nuance to Rey and Kylo. Wander what he was looking at. Rey was more or the same since the first movie. Kylo changed but he was all over the place between the three movies.
He seemed to be the next Darth Vader (which I think he should have kept the mask on longer). Then he turned out to be whiny. Then a man baby in the second. And then a errand boy in the third.
But yeah overall he is right.

I got nothing to say here.

When your character gets reduced to screaming "REEEY!" too many times, anything else may seem like nuance.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:33 am His mention of nuance to Rey and Kylo. He really could have been an interesting character. Raised from birth to be a Stormtroopers that somehow breaks out of the mold. Honestly I think they should have had him more by Rey's side. But make him competent. Make him useful. He doesn't have to be the best stormtrooper ever either.Mabus wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 7:26 pmWhen your character gets reduced to screaming "REEEY!" too many times, anything else may seem like nuance.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:33 am His mention of nuance to Rey and Kylo. Hell, you could have had him spar with Rey using that staff weapon that can deflect the lightsaber. Maybe he is good at it. Maybe in TFA he was able to stand his ground a little more with the lightsaber.
I got nothing to say here.

Can't really blame him for disliking the fandom that sent him death threats merely for being cast.

That too. Fucking ridiculous. Heaven forbid a black man in a Star Wars film. Oh the horror! He is a stormtrooper!Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 4:02 am Can't really blame him for disliking the fandom that sent him death threats merely for being cast.

I think he was sidelined by the powers that be to make Rey's star look brighter, but I can't be 100% certain. Since I can't really know the motive, I'll just go with that I thought Finn had the basis for a more interesting story than Rey, and that Boyega was done a disservice. I can't blame him for being resentful of the powers behind the scenes.
