...also, just gunna put this out there: Egypt was not part of this meeting, despite the Stargate being taken from Egypt. That's a bit poor form Hammond.
A) Hammond sure as heck didn't get to pick who attended the meeting.
B) The USA ignoring Middle Eastern Countries when they dont want anything from them is probably the most realistic part about this meeting.
C) Can you imagine how awkward that meeting would've been "So yeah all those cultural accomplishments you guys think you did in the past? Aliens." "But we built the Pyramids!" "Nah, Alien landing sites..." Big problem with the ancient Astronaut thing is how it's inherently racist.
D) One can also point t Danemark, Norway and other Scandinavian countries not being there despite the guy who shaped their culture attending the meeting.
Yeah, I can see that definitely. However I was also under the impression that every polytheistic god was a Goa'uld given how we also have a Yu and a Nirti. I wonder what the Chinese government thought of old Yu when they learned that. Modern China is a weird place that is on the one hand modern enough to kick the ass of any other country barring perhaps America in the tech race, but where you will also find many who believe in prehistoric crap like powdered rhino horn giving you an erection. A good part of the ivory trade gets snorted right up their noses.
Yeah but even Yu, despite his name, mostly parades in Egyptian stuff, with Egypt-themed Jaffas using cobra-themed staves, Pyramid ships etc... He mostly limits himself to the name and sorta chinese costume. And not helped by Stargate not being sure who Yu is (Daniel refers to him as both Yu the Great and the Jade Emperor, who are different figures). It's never really shown that Yu created all of China's ancient culture, so much as he was there and may have coopted it.
Meanwhile the Ancient Egyptians it's like "Nah, everything about you guys is aliens. Language? based on Goa'uld. Pyramids? Goa'uld ships. Canopic jars? Goa'uld stasis for symbiotes. Sarcophacus? Mimicing alien healing beds. Very myths? Just accounts of aliens fighting."

I believe this meeting was for the permanent members of the UN Security Council, Egypt is not one of them. At one time I thought it was 6 countries and that Canada was one of them, but on re-watch, that's obviously not the case. Egypt [and Canada] did later join the Gate Alliance Treaty.
I think Stargate established that the Gould copy everything because they have no imaginations. So, the Egyptian themes are due to the fact that they loved the style. Also, they aren't the inspirations for gods but just copied the name of the local deities.

Anubis: Yes, I am Jesus.
Except that it doesn't quite match up. And the "no imagination" bit is clearly exaggeration as we do see Goa'uld innovate. We're told the Pyramids are landing platforms for the Ships - it's weird if that's something the Goa'uld just picked off the Egyptians. "Oh yeah, lets, like, make our ships need a specific type of tomb to land on. Coz that's practical?" And if you go by the movie, the human that'd be Ra's host looks more tribal than an egyptian citizen, implying Ra at least arrived before what we see as "Ancient Egypt". Supported by the Film giving Ra's arrival at around 8,000 BC, long before the early kingdom.
Plus several of the myths are clearly based on the actual Goa'uld. Apophis and Ra being enemies, for example. (Though that aspect is more debatable as Stargate is awful at mythology). There's no reason to assume Ra and Apophis just decided to LARP the humans' religion.

Gould are enemies to each other completely because they're all merciless sociopaths. But yes, basically I assume the Gould modeled their ships on Egyptian designs because it fit the "We are your gods" deal. But that's just my interpretation of it.

Yeah, I must admit...I can very much understand the diplomats not being happy about the whole 'Oh, turns out America's been violating the Outer Space Treaty and nearly got Earth destroyed on multiple occasions.' I'm kinda on their side on that one personally despite liking the SG-1 team.
Honestly, an international shift could have been fun for Stargate. Open it up to the endless non-american actors on the continent trying to land a role.

Think would have had an even more fun conversation there, as at the time I think they were using the Beta Gate, from the Ross Ice Shelf. Which is part of the New Zealand claim for Antarctica. Awkward conversation there. "Hi, we're just stealing an Ancient artifact from territory you claim, using Military personal and basing out of a Base in your territory. And then we're going to fly it out via your country" and later on with the Ancient Outpost being pretty close, another fun conversation.

No the beta gate is destroyed at the start of this season. So like a dozen episodes prior. They are back on the primary gate, hence the Russians having the deal, has they had recovered the primary gate from the bottom of the ocean and are "renting" it to the SGC.
Should also be pointed out that irl, most signatories of the Antarctica treaty do not recognize New Zealand's claim to the Ross Dependency. This includes the USA. And most of the non New Zealand world as no territorial claims can be asserted in Antarctica so long as the treaty is active. Both the UK and New Zealand signed that treaty.
This was one of my favorite episodes of SG-1. Or rather it was one of the few episodes I bothered to watch as all the episodes I watched were via iTunes on my iPod Nano back in the day. I never really had a problem with clip show cause for me it was a chance to find out about all the important or cool episodes that I had missed. So when Chuck stated previously to disliking clip show, I was understandably pretty miffed. But now understanding that he doesn't have the best record with clip shows makes me understand. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
