Re: Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve
All right, that's sorted. Now...I like what I am seeing. Visually I think they've nailed the Fremen. Paul and his family are looking their parts and the Brutalist style for buildings works for Arrakis. The only actor I have any concerns about is Jason and he's playing Duncan, which is a role he should be able to handle.
Full trailer hits the 9th so more to come but for now I am optimitic.

Re: Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve
I my opinion the reason the other two Dune Adaptations failed was ultimately how both handled the Main Protagonist and the Main Antagonist. The original Dune film did a decent job with Paul and the Miniseries also did a decent job with the Baron while the film UTTERLY Butchered the Baron while the Miniseries' first half was Paul in name only and only kinda gets him right in the second half of the miniseries. I think if this film can capture what made both characters so good then it will capture what made the novel truly special.
I do like how Villeneuve's film is clearly taking a few elements from the Lynch film such as the costumes and the sets being almost identical to the Lynch film. I also think the cast is pretty damn good with Oscar Isaac being the one I'm most interested mainly because I think he's REALLY gotten screwed over in the last five years between the Star Wars Disney Sequel Trilogy which turned Poe from a competent leader to an idiot who nearly got the Resistances destroyed Twice. Being Horribly miscast as En Sabah Nur aka Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse, spending most of Annihilation (which is a fantastically HORRIFYING Movie) lying down so at least with Leto Atreides he's playing a complex and Major character.
So, I'm very optimistic with this film, we got a director who's clearly familiar with the book, a top notch cast and some really great costumes and and sets.

I love the look, the music and the actors...I love the shimmer effect on the shields....and if I didn't have to go into work I'd spend the rest of the day scanning through the trailer to figure out which troops belong to which armies!

It looks like it's hitting the right marks for action, aesthetic, and possibly tone. Interesting music, we'll see how the score works in the actual film. Too orchestral or industrial could make the overall experience boring, but the world-music feel dripping around the corners of the trailer might just be the way to go.
