The Blood Moon Rises!
Just kidding, it's the sun. Because the sky is turning red. Because the West Coast is burning in a climate change inferno.
And people still call Greta Thunberg "spoiled" or a "cultist".

That's a poignant fact about Magneto in the X-Men comic book franchise. I was curious though if you have a thought on the diplomatic aspect of the movement surrounding her? As in the facts and assertions of what she's talking about?clearspira wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 6:37 amJust because her points are correct does not mean that someone is not spoiled or cultist. You tend to not talk about what issues actually are and instead talk about movements as if the people they're comprised of are just coalitions of people that you talk to on the internet or run into at a café.

Also Greta has to my knowledge not advocatd anything as extreme as Magneto proposed. Her central argument is let's not heat up the planet too much or otherwise life will get extremely difficult.

Cult is from the latin, cultus meaning "To Worship".Jonathan101 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 8:34 pmNot really.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 7:09 am I mean, isn't one defining trait of cults their total detachment from reality? Insular resistance to the facts in front of them?
Depends on how you define a cult, which is a much trickier question than it sounds.
The main characteristic of a cult is less what they believe in and more their particular attitude towards it. Their resistance to reality can be really obvious if their views are outlandish, or much harder to see if their views are something widely accepted or that you yourself are sympathetic to.
Most people who are in cults don't consider themselves to be in a cult, and there are lots of examples of cult-like behaviour in everything from politics to sports to fandoms. "Cult" is just an abbreviation of the word "culture" after all.
I eagerly await more total bullshit from people who want to say that global warming isn't happening, but know that in any moderately educated forum of discussion that won't fly.

It's not global warming; it's a lack of forest management coupled with a put out every fire policy when it comes to wildfires. We get a worst of both world with a massive buildup of detritus and dead wood that isn't cleared out by man or nature. Then comes the reckoning.

That's what Trump said and experts on the ground categorically called him ignorant.
There were 11,000+ lightning strikes in one night, which is more than you'd expect in the busiest year. It's never happened before and it started a swath of horrendous fires.
As if it's a regular practice to upkeep literally all the forested area in all of the land.

Oh, you assume it's the government's job instead of forestry companies who will do the job themselves, make profit and pay taxes on top that can be used for upkeep of National parks and forests.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 7:23 pm That's what Trump said and experts on the ground categorically called him ignorant.

I'm not sure of what business you're talking about that cleans up the forest. At least not sustainably lol. So aside from people that chop the forest down in order to prevent forest fires, what kind of profitable business comes about that results in forests proactively being proofed from fire spread?Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 7:28 pmOh, you assume it's the government's job instead of forestry companies who will do the job themselves, make profit and pay taxes on top that can be used for upkeep of National parks and forests.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 7:23 pm That's what Trump said and experts on the ground categorically called him ignorant.
