Again, that's what you get from the unique combination of polarization, the MSM whipping us into fear and anger to suit their own agendas, excessive and irresponsible campaign spending to back it up, and also the X factor that is COVID and Mr. 45 himself. I'll pin the driving factor to the high turnout as being Mr. 45, his high energy, fervor, drive, and aggression, and the low visibility maintained to keep Mr. Biden from making an a** of himself. He's at least been good for democrat recruiting, as well as for various terrorist organizations.
Because I refuse to entertain the notion this is due to actual popularity, since many voters on both sides couldn't stand their candidate, but that at least Mr. 45 inspires them, whether from fear or love, to do what we've seen this year. I hear that all the time from democrats and republicans, latinos, blacks, whites, doesn't matter. And yet they still put down a vote for them because tribalism is rising, where both sides are convinced the other side is going to destroy America. That mindset is what's going to do it.
I can't help but feel a kind of morbid fascination in wondering how long it will take the MSM to actually cover one of Mr. Biden's myriad flaws and scandals, since they had effectively buried them with the rationalization that it's the other side trying to divide them. You can only hide his cognitive issues from the camera for so long. And when Ms. Harris is made President through chain of succession, I'm prepared to defend people who accurately insist she isn't the real president. If she had been, she would have been voted in. She was not. It's not racism or sexism. Could be disappointment. SJWs never stop to consider that. And that is where tribalism meets polarization. Action-reaction effect.

600,000 isn't that close, but I was really surprised Biden got as much as he did in Texas.
Also I'm fine with trading Pennsylvania for Georgia. I think it's a pretty good deal despite having less votes.

And now it looks like Biden's got both. It's all over but the crying, mostly Trump's crying.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 12:20 pm 600,000 isn't that close, but I was really surprised Biden got as much as he did in Texas.

Re: The great 2020 election thread....
Y'know... I do not trust postal ballots and I never have. My argument is that if you are unlucky enough to get a postman that day who decides to dump the contents of the mailbag down the sewer because he cannot be bothered to deliver it then you have lost your vote. It is also possible to get a crooked postman or sorting office worker who decides to throw your vote away because he is a shitty human being. Both of these things have actually happened.
But I have to say that the idea that you could tamper with enough votes on the scale that Trump is claiming really is far-fetched.
The number one question you have to ask yourself with any conspiracy theory is ''how many people need to be in on this conspiracy in order to make it work?'' The higher the number, the harder it is to keep secret and the less likely it is that it'll succeed. I figure electoral fraud on this scale would need dozens of people minimum because you'll need to have both the counters and the people overseeing the counters in on it. And if this was a Hollywood film that may sound reasonable, but in real life it really is difficult to amass a group of people willing to do serious prison time in one place who are also supremely gifted conmen who will stand up to any media or police scrutiny that comes at them. What is possible is not the same thing as what is plausible.

People can talk "both sides are bad" all they want, but on the Right Wingers are actively trying to stop people from voting. The most radical communists and anarchists aren't pushing to stop counting votes or using violent intimidation to try to stop people from getting into the voting lines or running 45's campaign bus of the road.

Re: The great 2020 election thread....
Mr. 45, soon to be Mr. Trump again, has surpassed Mr. Obama's vote totals from 2008. This should deeply scare the DNC. Will they acknowledge it? Nah, smug ahead full! They will continue on with business as usual, thinking that being opposite the GOP is the alternative narrative rather than developing anything of substance in a genuine alternate narrative. No doubt Mr. Biden's hollow accomplishment, such as it is, in racking up the most votes of any candidate in history, they will equate to enthusiasm for him and them personally, and that's just not the case. I saw a few sobering articles that said the DNC needs to take 2024 more seriously, and they are not doing that. What is to stop Mr. 45, once he's Mr. Trump again, from running all over again and becoming Mr. 47?
As I've said before, I don't like Mr. Sanders, given his general hypocrisy and admiration for the ol' USSR, yet I'll be the first to admit I think the DNC needs to quickly embrace his policies, and now. Put him in a position to get leveraging points on the party platform and policy positions. That's the only thing that'll swell their numbers and prevent another runaway Trump effect from taking hold over the electorate. That, or reject him outright. And like others, I'm not confident they will. Mostly because they are rightly terrified Mr. Sanders would just take his capital to form his own party. And that is precisely what needs to be done. But... no, democrats and republicans are too razor-obsessed with each other's defeat, they have stopped seeing the big picture.
Also calling his supporters racists and sexists will accomplish nothing when the next populist figure comes along and they flock to him. People are desperate for radical change, and we're not getting it. If anything, there's actual statistics that overwhelmingly suggest the unique notion, one I don't heard spoken often enough, that white support among the GOP is down, and rising among minorities. Don't think this is just coffee-house chatter. I've met many Latinos and blacks who just abhor the DNC as much or more than the GOP, and it's entirely possible they could lose even more of them in 2024. Calling vast segments of the population racist and sexist is entirely what skews the polls and keeps them silent. Even if they are exactly as racist and sexist as you think, why are you surprised calling them that has a negative net result? You don't convince someone by telling them they're a piece of s***! It is a tragedy of epic proportions we are not trying to understand why minorities and many other vulnerable groups could give their support to someone like that, who clearly doesn't care about them. Especially after the DNC abandoned them in the '90s.
One thing is for sure, as we inch toward the start of a new year to close out 2020.
This promises to be a very interesting new decade.

I am honestly distressed that there are still so many people willing to vote for 45, given...every single thing about him.

I would highly advise shutting off your brain before going there. I've seen it. And while I don't personally agree with much of what he posts, I could see the effect it would have on huge numbers of people. Really. To me, he is as fake as his hair, and a strange merging between a celebrity and a salesman, yet don't forget the huge impact they have on our daily lives.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 1:15 am Now I'm kind of interested in his twitter feed tbph.
What scares me is how he is able to so seamlessly intertwine a nugget of truth into whatever you're thinking. The MSM really is an agenda-driven entity. Doesn't make it fake news, but it does, however, show that they have let their clear disdain for him, understandable as it is, poison the well and infect news reporting. He has, in a way, thrown off the illusion we as a country have lived with for so long, and I think that's why so many like him.

Well no I know this already lol, and it's why I didn't care about it when he was president. Its 100% hyperbole and I had no interest in a president I don't agree with doing that.Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Sat Nov 07, 2020 1:38 amI would highly advise shutting off your brain before going there.
