Alright but less patriarchy please.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 5:15 pmWere empathy a biproduct of civilization, civilization could never have started in the first place as civilization requires the vast majority of it's population to be willing to take one for the team as the advent of agriculture, while providing greater stability, resulted in reduction in average caloric intake.Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:23 pm I don't consider empathy a survival trait so much as a byproduct of our civilization experiment the first humans set down around ten thousand years ago.

I see absolutely no reason why Trump deserves any kind empathy, even as a human being.

because as I was repeatedly told in the nature of evil thread, that kind of thinking is a slippery slope. don't do it for him, do it to prevent yourself from becoming a monster.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 7:15 pmOnly your opinion.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 4:34 pmagain, not possible unless you are a sociopath.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 3:54 pmTrump doesn't deserve my empathy, I'd sooner piss on his grave in front of his 14 year old son before feeling bad for him and his family.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:08 pmnot saying that people like Trump shouldn't face cosequences at all but when someone says they are witholding their empathy for Trump, no, you can't do that, you have no choice in feeling empathy, it is hardwired into your brain, unless you are a sociopath.

and it's not just my opinion, I am literally incapable of doing anything that goes against empathy, even thinking of harming or wishing harm on another human being gives me a headache.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 7:15 pmOnly your opinion.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 4:34 pmagain, not possible unless you are a sociopath.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 3:54 pmTrump doesn't deserve my empathy, I'd sooner piss on his grave in front of his 14 year old son before feeling bad for him and his family.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:08 pmnot saying that people like Trump shouldn't face cosequences at all but when someone says they are witholding their empathy for Trump, no, you can't do that, you have no choice in feeling empathy, it is hardwired into your brain, unless you are a sociopath.

So is empathy a moral obligation or an innate condition for you? It can't be both.
I think you would greatly benefit from broadening your philosophical horizons, because what you've got right now isn't working. Why else would you come back to that Police Brutality thread again and again, accusing us of brainwashing you or trying to turn you against your relative? I think it's because you have some deeply conflicted feelings and you currently don't have the tools to reconcile them or find their root cause.

it can be both but the nurture part of nature and nurture can temper empathy but both my nature and nurture are pure good.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 10:48 pm So is empathy a moral obligation or an innate condition for you? It can't be both.

Well I mean we wouldn't theoretically have free will if it wasn't both specifically.

I say this stuff because it worked that way for me. I had a phase where I not only wished death on those I deemed evil, I fantasized about becoming a real life Punisher. but the fact that I never actually did that means my sense empathy held me back.
