Mira Furlan Passes

Post by Rocketboy1313 »

The actress, Mira Furlan died today at the age of 65.
She was Delenn on "Babylon 5".

This stands out to me because I read JMS' autobiography recently and he mentioned the numerous cast deaths that had happened since the series' end (Peter Jurasik is the audiobook reader and does a great job with it). If you have not read JMS' autobiography "Becoming Superman" I highly recommend it, his friendship with Harlan Ellison is moving, and his tortured relationship with his parents is tragic... To say nothing of the murder mystery promised at the start of the book, trigger warnings abound for it tho.

God, are... any of the main character's actors left besides Boxleitner? I feel like we can't have a year we don't lose one of them now.

That's time for you. People die and died all the time, you only happen to notice it more now, because the people dying now are the people you grew up with and who you paid attention to.

Mira Furlan died already on the 20th btw., cause not published, but a comment from Straczinski made mention of her health failing her a while ago. Someone posted a last message of hers to her Twitter-account:

That is a good last message to all of us. Never forget Delenn.

She has gone to the sea, we will meet again somewhere between the candle and the star.

Farewell Mira. 😔

Claudia Christian, Patricia Tallman, Peter Jurasic, Jason Carter, Tracy Scoggins, Bill Mumy are still with
us.

I think what strikes us so many of us on the B5 curse is that, well... how many are dead before their time. Not those who pass away now. This should have been the age many first succumb, not earlier.

Okay, may be morbid, but... I can't help but wonder who will fall prey to the B5 curse next?

Mira Furlun was a great actress and I always at least understood why Delenn did the things she did even when she reacted to dukhat's death I understood her grief. She was a great actress that impacted my childhood. RIP Mira.

Sad about this. I've not seen her in anything other than Babylon 5 (didn't watch Lost), and always found Delenn one of the more interesting characters. Her accent helped I think, it was much later before I learned that was Mira Furlan's native accent.

She'll live in in a small way as one of my Elite: Dangerous crew (third-party voice pack addons, with those my crew consists of Mira Furlan as Number One, Brian Blessed as Weapons and Engineering, and Brent Spiner as Science Officer).
