I have to admit, next to the (Rumored) adaptation of the Thrawn Trilogy and the Book of Boba Fett this is perhaps the Lucas Films Project I have been looking forward to for most of my life. Willow is one of my favorite films from Lucas himself and Willow is easily one of the best characters he's ever created. As much as I love Middle Earth the world of Willow will always have a place in my heart as it was one of first Fantasy stories I ever saw (alongside the Princess Bride and ThunderCats) and while the story does have it's flaws the characters are some of the most underrated in the Lucas Roster IMO.
The Music is also fantastic being one of James Horner best scores to date. The main theme of the movie and the scored used for Madmartigan are just as great as the themes for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and always ones I find myself humming every so often.
It also has two of the best villain deaths EVER!!! Kael, the Darth Vader of the film, takes no less then THREE swords to the next and a fall from a 3 or 4 story bridge before he dies and Bavmorda has one of the best magic duels before finally confronting the title character which results in her being killed by the very spell she intended to use on Elora which is a nice twist on the Prophecy the film builds up. It was true that Elora would bring about her downfall but that only happened because she sought to kill her and faced Willow who managed to get her to destroy herself.
However, I would be remissed if I didn't say I was a bit worried, not only because of the Star Wars Disney Sequel Trilogy but also because of the series original sequels. Like with Star Wars Willow had a Trilogy of novels that, while having some good ideas (it was written partly by Lucas) wasn't all that good. Known as the Shadow Trilogy said Trilogy focuses Elora and her journey but the story, while not bad, wasn't all that good either.
It makes sense to put more focus on Elora but in the novels I didn't find her all that interesting and while the world building was overall well executed (again this was partly written by Lucas) the characters just weren't as strong as they were in the film and the plot was rather dull.
Not saying it will be bad but again, I'm just worried about it as this is a sequel I've wanted for a long time and hope it's good. The team that's been assembled to make this show are all people I have faith in but even the best creative team can created a bad or an outright boring story if the production goes badly.
Still, looking forward to this and hope it's good.

I would rather a Buffy: Willow series. She was always more interesting to me.

Re: Willow Sequel Series
Oh, the Chris Claremont (of X-men fame) novels. I can see why those might worry you. They were a mixed bag that in some respects worked better if you treated them as a separate fantasy series than Willow. I liked parts of them, certainly, but Elora wasn't a really interesting character compared to Willow or the demon-knight-lady.
I imagine that we're not going to be following those exactly but I am a bit worried that Willow, while great, doesn't have it in it to support an entire TV series instead of say a sequel movie.

From what we got from the film it doesn't but the world's enough of a blank slate (well, just going from the film, I've not read the novels).shikomekidomi wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 11:08 am I imagine that we're not going to be following those exactly but I am a bit worried that Willow, while great, doesn't have it in it to support an entire TV series instead of say a sequel movie.
Original actor reprise her role as Elora? (joking really, and in any case I believe that they were twins, so not the same baby in every shot).
Willow, along with Krull, the films that got me in to soundtracks (well, the push after Star Wars anyway).
