Merlin Miniseries

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

I'm pretty sure I vaguely remember this one from long, long ago when it first aired. I... think I liked it? But then it has been a long time, and I certainly don't remember everything. Didn't remember that cringey Chinese-stereotype joke, for one thing. Though I believe I do remember that there is a Simpsons reference joke that could be made with the ending.

This movie introduced me to Arthurian Lore believe it or not. I still cannot get why Mab sounds like she smokes 10 packs a day though.

Oh my god, my brother, DnD group, and I used to have a whole stand up routine around this movie.
The idea was meeting Sam Neill at a convention and asking him, "What was it like on the set of Merlin?" and him being dumbfounded because NO ONE ever asks about it and he has basically forgotten he was even in it. And then he starts making up stuff based on the details fed to him by the guy asking the questions.
"What is Martin Short really like?"
"Uh... nice... cries more than you might imagine."

I remember this miniseries being decent. Not great, but decent.

I think the special effect for the dragon is okay. There's far worse old special effects, but there's also far better effects too.

I remember a few scenes from this film. Merlin as a baby and Mab being shown that she wouldn't be able to take care of him, Merlin being shown magic and Frik telling Mab being told he won't go past verbal and gestures, Merlin seeming to treat the moon as a coin, Merlin rushing in to see Arthur in bed with Morgan and being horrified, Frik falling in love with Morgan and her death, Merlin and the others turning their back on Mab and her fading, and the end with Merlin and Nimue with him reversing their ages. I enjoyed the film a lot.

It's weird, I've seen this miniseries, and only remember a couple things about it.

One, martin Short made to look like a suave swashbuckler, and it just not working for me due to it being Martin Short.

Two, Merlin pointing out that Rutger Hauer's castle was built over water. I always wondered if Merlin was making an illusion, and coming off as knowing more than he did while being the cause of the castle collapsing, or if he really was pointing out that there was water, which was causing the castle problems.

The rest? Complete blur.

You know I had actually forgotten how many miniseries were made back in the 90's and early 2000's and just how many of them came from Hallmark.

Nowadays Hallmark is mostly associated with churning out cheap, formulaic holiday movies, it's kinda odd looking back at a time when they were willing to spend money on risky ventures like these.

I don't think hallmark was involved. This aired on one of the big three networks. Don't remember which one.
