Re: Gina Carano fired
I feel like that could be a meme format really, a riff on “how it started/how it’s going”
“When trans people noticed they were shit/when everyone noticed”
Shame more people don’t know to take the Chris Pratt route of shutting the fuck up when people notice them have shitty politics. Like, Carano wasn’t fired for being conservative, but for being too dense to stop before getting to comparing ‘persecution’ of conservatives to the Holocaust.

Yeah, which is why I am doubious about cancel culture, why is it a bad thing when people have to answer to their words.

The whole reason the right is up in arms about cancel culture is that it's their own tactics being used against them and it shows how they are rapidly losing control over the cultural narrative.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 3:05 pm Yeah, which is why I am doubious about cancel culture, why is it a bad thing when people have to answer to their words.

Apparently LF was looking for a reason to let her go for a while just based on her earlier posts. I'm actually curious to see whether Disney had an eye on this.
I imagine she doesn't pay attention much to the progressive politics online, only by account of even the right-wing social media having some sort of collective development of understanding in just how and even maybe why sensibility violations are stoked.
lol with Chris Pratt. He was paying attention about Tim Allen.

I mean the thing that got her fired was a post where she explicitly compared what conservatives are facing today to the plight of the Jews in Nazi GermanyBridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 4:09 pm Apparently LF was looking for a reason to let her go for a while just based on her earlier posts. There are two cancel cultures:Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 3:05 pm Yeah, which is why I am doubious about cancel culture, why is it a bad thing when people have to answer to their words.
1) Where someone says something that offends their members of their fandom/audience/community who decide to take action and tell other members of the fandom/audience/community. This is the clean hypothetical cancel culture.
2) Roughly the same as 1, except "take action" means send death threats/rape threats/telling them to kill themselves, etc.
Case 1 is the invisible hand doing it's work, roughly the entertainment equivalent of someone finding a rat hair in their soup. Case 2 is just harassment.

Re: Gina Carano fired
She linked associative political ideology stigma to a woman being chased down the street during WWII. Quite hyperbolic despite intentions. But it's more a matter of systemic reasoning than comparison of circumstance for lack of a better word. I mean obviously no one is chasing her or her peers down the street, but that's not supposed to be the idea.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 5:26 pmI mean the thing that got her fired was a post where she explicitly compared what conservatives are facing today to the plight of the Jews in Nazi GermanyBridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 4:09 pm Apparently LF was looking for a reason to let her go for a while just based on her earlier posts. And then again still though, it's hard to really correlate what's going on to being chased down the street, as far as all the commercial media cards on the table. It's a pretty shoddy formulation of address.
So a tad less than explicit.

Questionable image in question:

The explicit comparison was the underlying logic of scapegoating, or at least as I learned of the Nazis in high school.

Re: Gina Carano fired
She wasn't literally comparing the average republican voter to the Jews of the Third Reich. What she was saying was that the government, media, and the elites are brainwashing people so badly, we're being turned against one another. And it's true. That is what they were doing in the Third Reich, and even my leftist friends have compared us to the Weimar Republic. Because we're being brainwashed into hating each other. I mean, it's actually similar to Mr. Pascal's tweet about the MAGA hats, IMO. Don't get me wrong, a business has every right not to associate with her anymore, just that I'm a bit concerned about the reasons. And look at Hollywood, where a lot of conservatives have to stay silent for fear of being canceled. That's not right.
I'm actually very fearful for my more conservative friends, some of whom are minorities, yes. Not that many, admittedly, but it seems we're on the fast-track to something like the House of Un-American Activities again, where you can slap the "sedition" label on someone to get them shut down if they say something you don't like. I mean, I've said it before, the Capitol Hill rush is more of a symbolic wound, while last year's riots amounted to far more economic damage and lives lost. How are people not upset over that? Because it's for a "progressive" cause. And it's not like I don't want police reform. I want a lot of these long-standing issues addressed, but they're not going to do that.
Look at what the MSM is still doing, making Mr. Trump into a convenient bogeyman (and he is indefensible, I'll admit) because they literally have nothing left of substance for us. That's how the game is played to win votes. They're going to keep generating that outrage machine, until they've become exactly like the GOP hard-liners who still to this day have a weird hate-b**** for Ms. Clinton. There's literally zero proof he colluded with Russia or that he directly incited this mob. Is it possible? H, yes. But there's no evidence. As for how words and rhetoric can have consequences, well...
I find it frankly disgusting this is allowed to go on. Look at something like Ms. Ireland's comments where she says "men suck" and that "all whites are racist" or admits to wanting to "rewrite history." That's scary to me, and yet she's allowed to work there while Ms. Carano is let go for less? Why? Could just be that she's a black woman.
This is why woke is just as stupid as based.
