Going to add my voice for Starship Troopers, and add The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress as another Heinlein work that could really do with a review. Would also like to see some of the Discworld series.
Actually, now I come to think about it, if he's going to do books, why not other non-animated media? I'm thinking stuff like webcomics (stuff like Schlock Mercenary and Freefall, plus maybe Gunnerkrigg Court).
Another book review?

I second this.MattII wrote:Would also like to see some of the Discworld series.
How about regular comics; it'd be interesting to see his take on the Doctor Who/TNG crossover comic. Another good one to tackle is the prequel comic to the first Abrhams' film; Chuck's already mentioned it and brief covered some of it in the review of that film, so we know he's read it.Actually, now I come to think about it, if he's going to do books, why not other non-animated media? Is it written by people who write professionally for either series (inasmuch as the writing for any series of Star Trek can be considered 'professional')?Dînadan wrote:How about regular comics; it'd be interesting to see his take on the Doctor Who/TNG crossover comic.
Never seen that one. I picked webcomics because they're generally written and drawn by the same person, so he (or she) knows his story, knows how the characters will react, etc.Another good one to tackle is the prequel comic to the first Abrhams' film; Chuck's already mentioned it and brief covered some of it in the review of that film, so we know he's read it.

Not sure, it's published by IDW who hold the comic liscences for Trek and Who I believe, so at most it probably has writer(s) that have worked on Trek and/or Who comics.MattII wrote:Is it written by people who write professionally for either series (inasmuch as the writing for any series of Star Trek can be considered 'professional')?Dînadan wrote:How about regular comics; it'd be interesting to see his take on the Doctor Who/TNG crossover comic.
Well unless I'm mistaken, the prequel comic was written by the same guys that wrote the film script, so they know how the characters react inasmuch as it relates to that film. In fact it's pretty much all but canon (and at the very least I think as far as the writers are concerned it is canon). It's a good one for Chuck to cover as one of his lamentations over the film was that the material in the comic wasn't in the actual film and the film is the worse for it.Never seen that one. Discworld seems an obvious choice, yeah. I'd particularly like to see Mort, Guards! Guards!, or Night Watch.
I've also though that it would be interesting if Chuck reviewed some of the Dresden Files books, ever since he did the Dragon Age review and his wise-ass homicidal wizard protagonist reminded me rather strongly of Harry Dresden.
Hmm... 1984 and War of the Worlds, if we want the literary classic route.

As a huge Arthur C. Clarke fan, put me in the camp for Rama. I wouldn't cry if he, instead, chose Songs of Distant Earth or Childhood's End or any of a number of other Clarke stories.

Holy crap! I forgot about A Canticle For Leibowitz which is easily one of my favorite books.ChiggyvonRichthofen wrote:In the running for my favorite sci-fi novel. Lately, i have really enjoyed Heinlein's Juveniles, so if Chuck ever did a review i would certainly see it. They talk about some interesting issues dealing with mankind of alien life but core of the stories are 'boy's own adventure' type stuff. Imagine Tom Sawyer on Mars or Huckleberry Fin on a space ship and you kinda get the idea.

Re: Another book review?
Hmm, something just occurred to me.
Has anyone ever requested a review of a comic book or graphic novel? And would that be something Chuck would review (I don't believe its explicitly excluded, though I understand that Chuck doesn't take a lot of new requests at all these days)? He's done larger overviews of comics history, and film and television adaptations, of course, but never to my recollection a specific comic book story or story arc, or a graphic novel.
I ask because I find his commentary on comic books, specifically Marvel and DC, to often be among his best, and he seems to have a remarkably informative understanding of the behind the scenes stuff in the comics industry. And I'd very much love reviews of some of the "classic" Batman stories, like Year One, The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, etc.

Re: Another book review?
Hm, how difficult is it to get your hands on an entire story arc? Are they uploaded online anywhere? That's where webcomics win, they're always up online, although to be fair, Freefall does provide a speed-reader page:

This allows you to browse at 3000+ strips in one place (though depending on your endurance, possibly not all in one go).

He has done one comic review; as part of his Avatar reviews he did the comic that bridges the gap between tLAB and LoK.The Romulan Republic wrote:Hmm, something just occurred to me.
