If a bear kills your dog while you're in the woods . . .
Are you morally justified to kill that bear even if your life is not at stake? I just thought of this after watching the 1988 film The Bear and thinking to myself, "Fuck this bear, I would totally kill him in this hunter's place, he killed my dog, Fuck Him!" Not a super profound question I know, but I pose it nonetheless.

I doubt it'd really help with protected statuses. Maybe not in Texas though lol.

Well, I forgot I made this thread, drinking 8 shots of whiskey in an hour will do that. That being said Bridge, my question was are morally justified to kill the bear, not if it's legal.

Depends how far is the bear from your house if a bear is dangerous and clearly going to be where you are, then you could argue self defense.

I say it depends on the time between "Bear kills dog" and "You shoot bear". If there's very little time between them, then it isn't morally evil (or perhaps as morally evil). Then again, given that the hunters were there to kill bears, it's sliding more towards the morally evil end of the spectrum.

That's fair, time is an important factor.
I guess I should clarify that I initially meant in this scenario that you and your dog are in the woods, your dog runs off a distance ahead and gets killed by a bear before you can do anything, the bear is far enough away, like across a river your dog swam across or something, that you are definitely not in immediate danger. While I was inspired by that movie which features bear hunters, in this scenario you are not necessarily a hunter. I actually think the hunters started that fight in the movie, I was just kind of angry at the bear for killing his dog (I like dogs).

What that distance is is going to vary from person to person. If someone saw a bear kill it dog and it shot them I wouldn't judge but I can see others feeling difference.

If you knew about the simple bear necessities you wouldn't be posting this
The past tempts us, the present confuses us, the future frightens us. And our lives slip away moment by moment lost in that vast, terrible in-between.
