Re: Atlantis: Seer
In many ways I see "Atlantis" as a good mix of Voyager and Deep Space 9, especially the first season.
A group of our heroes is stranded in a far away location with new threats and limited resources, there is a social split between the civilian and military groups and later with the locals that join them, and there is an emphasis on the politics rather than exploration.
Don't know where I am going with this.

Re: Atlantis: Seer
They established regular contact with Earth too early, that was the problem. The big Wraith attack and the Daedalus showing up ought to have been the Season 3 finale, not Season 1. They ought to have spent longer eking out survival, making contacts and alliances, and scientific discoveries, all on their own for longer than a season. That would have made it seem more understandable when they made those "hard" decisions, where they "did what [they] had to do", and did something dumb or rotten. Regular contact with Earth, even on a three week journey, just makes them seem like they are on a long vacation rather than isolated beyond a frontier facing dangerous unknowns and being outclassed on every level, having to survive on their wits and ability to negotiate.Rocketboy1313 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 1:48 am In many ways I see "Atlantis" as a good mix of Voyager and Deep Space 9, especially the first season.

Amusingly enough, Stargate Universe made the exact same mistake with the body switching stones only ten times worse.CrypticMirror wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 1:58 amThey established regular contact with Earth too early, that was the problem. Re: Atlantis: Seer
If that was only the worst mistake they made with Battlestargate Universe. The rest of the SG franchise showed that they hired the best of the best, and while they might be quirky, they were [mostly] grown adults who could get through the day without antagonising each other into violence. How did they go from that to hiring people that would fail the personality tests to be a mall security guard? And the shaky cams. So much shaky cams. And the washed out colours. Did Stargate get assimilated into the DCEU or something?clearspira wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 7:43 amAmusingly enough, Stargate Universe made the exact same mistake with the body switching stones only ten times worse.CrypticMirror wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 1:58 amThey established regular contact with Earth too early, that was the problem.
