Harry and Meghan Talk To Oprah

Post by clearspira »

Got to say, if their relationship goes south, Harry is going to be one lonely man. Meghan, she's fine. She has her own life, family and friends in the States. But Harry? He didn't just leave his family, he insulted them in public with the most famous interviewer there is. His relationship with Wills and Charles is never going to be the same no matter what happens. Not to mention that Harry is now deeply unpopular in Britain, his name is mud every time he comes up now.

At the end of the day - its their word against the Royal Family. No reason to believe him, her or them over anyone else.

There is a reason to believe him and her, because the Royal Family are a bunch of state-subsidized parasites. Also because, on most issues, if Piers Morgan is fluffing his feathers and clutching his pearls and squawking in outrage, then whatever pissed him off is probably a good thing.

The war of 1812 had a lot of big problems and corrupt motives, but this is another thing (like marmite) that convinces me it was the right move.

And if this does go south for Harry, he'll be fine. He has a loving wife AND piles of money to cry on.

I know this is a bit of an ask but can someone summarize the claims made by them? I'm having trouble accessing it. Yes I know it's on CBS but I just am not in the right region. I really don't particularly care for the royals too much, but it does fascinate me that there seems to always be so much drama around them.

Here's a summary from NPR

Ok, the NPR summary does come down "they said, we said" stuff. I feel like the couple might be overdramatizing things. Like, I'm not sure why the child of the second son of the crown prince would automatically get the Prince title but I don't know the precedent. I also feel that the royal family members asking about the baby's skin color thing might have just been boomer curiosity rather than bigotry. Like my sister in law is Turkish and recently became pregnant and some members of my family have "speculated' on what skin color the baby will look like but not in a "my word this baby WON'T BE WHITE!" but in a "huh, I wonder what she'll look like thing. I do believe the therapy thing though, the royals always seemed to be the "bottle it in" stiff upper lip crowd.

Having a monarchy next door is a little like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and has daubed their house with clown murals, displays clown dolls in each window and has an insatiable desire to hear about and discuss clown-related news stories. More specifically, for the Irish, it’s like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and, also, your grandfather was murdered by a clown.

Beyond this, it’s the stuff of children’s stories. Having a queen as head of state is like having a pirate or a mermaid or Ewok as head of state. What’s the logic? Bees have queens, but the queen bee lays all of the eggs in the hive. The queen of the Britons has laid just four British eggs, and one of those is the sweatless creep Prince Andrew, so it’s hardly deserving of applause.

Wait J thought the queen was a mere figure head, having only slightly more power than a random sword on a US marine.

The queen has all kinds of power that she doesn't use on principle. This is in part because if the monarch tried to use the power, they'd very quickly lose all of their power. Look at how Juan Carlos I foiled a coup in Spain for an example of an effective constitutional monarch.
