Solo: A Star Wars Story
Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Is anyone actually excited for this? Personally, I don't know why we even need a Han Solo prequel solo film.
Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
While a lot of people have said that Han doesn't feel like the guy we meet in the OT I just have to think... well yeah. Did Obi-Wan feel like the same guy in the prequels that we meet in New Hope? Heck, the one on Clone Wars is very different from him, Old Ben rarely cracks as many sick burns and oneliners.
This is a young Han, far younger. He hasn't built up a weariness or reputation. He's not the same guy you know because this is before we meet him as he first showed up. And considering it's a trailer, with a lot of things out of context, it only makes it harder to discern who he is at this point in time.
Here's how to really judge this movie. If by the end, you can see the threads that will eventually lead to to the Solo we know and love, then it has succeeded. If not, then that's its failing. But I like to think Ron Howard is a competent enough director he can pull this off and more importantly I'd like for a few of these future Star Wars stand alones to NOT center around the Force or the Jedi or the wider galactic conflict. And if this movie succeeds, well, maybe we're one step closer to a certain Bounty Hunter getting his due? We'll see.

ANH Han is not old, he could be a 24 who has seen some stuff easily. Kenobi is like 20 years difference and a lot of trauma.Rodan56 wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 12:53 am While a lot of people have said that Han doesn't feel like the guy we meet in the OT I just have to think... well yeah. Well, you might be right about Han being not that old. My guess is that he is in his early to mid-30s (which would be roughly the same age Harrison Ford was by the time he starred in ANH. According to his Wikipedia page he was born in 1942!) by ANH. Kenobi is much older than Han. Remember though, that he was like in his late 20s when he met Anakin, saw him grow up into the murdering-youngling Sith Lord roughly in 10-15 years after meeting him Darth Vader, then spent like another 20 years in isolation as "Ben Kenobi" watching Luke grow up.Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 8:16 amANH Han is not old, he could be a 24 who has seen some stuff easily. Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Solo is routinely stated to be older than Luke and Leia. He's about in his mid thirties at least when we meet him and in this film, it's very clearly during the earlier years of the Empire's rule. Ezra's parents back on Lothal probably haven't even been detained by the Empire yet. He's more than likely about twenty, maybe twenty two, and is only just about to start his criminal career. Chances are Han is going to be betrayed, kicked around, get screwed by a number of deals, mess up a few jobs and such long before he even enters that Cantina in Mos Eisley. A few years running with that mindset is going to change a person dramatically and no doubt harden his cynical attitude, which he appears to be on the cusp of even in the trailers. Right now, he appears more confident and cocky, perhaps even naive as to what becoming a smuggler entails and chances are this film more or less teaches him some harsh lessons he carries on throughout his life.
Basically I'm saying his mentor probably betrays them all at some point is what I'm getting at.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Since the prequels I thought Solo should be roughly the age of Vader/Anakin Skywalker.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Judging by Wookieepedia dates, Han Solo is around 29 in ANH while Luke and Leia are 19 at the time. The source note on that citation is a book that came out post-Disney so it's apparently canon. This would place him at being 12 years younger than Anakin.

It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage...
I'm still not really that excited, but I'll be seeing it anyway. Right now I haven't bought the Lego Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (just the speeders), so if I go straight from the cinema over to DJs and snap one up, well, job done for Disney.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story
At this point Solo should just be called 'This is Star Wars' since Donald Glover is the only thing that anybody can agree on liking about the damn film. :\

What exactly is the plot for this movie? Han gets the Millennial Falcon from Lando or what?SlackerinDeNile wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 10:37 pm At this point Solo should just be called 'This is Star Wars' since Donald Glover is the only thing that anybody can agree on liking about the damn film. :\
