William Dudley Pelley? He was a guy in the 1930s who popularized this kind of "Christian Identity" thinking among far-right types. KKK leader and MASSIVE Hitler fanboy, also into occult weirdness and believed in Anglo-American Israelism, a crazy belief system that posits that Jews aren't really the descendants of Israelites, but WASPS are, and that every other major culture or belief system is The Enemy and must be purged with fire and gun. Oh, and he was a traitor, too.

He was a crazy person, in other words, but he inspired a lot of white nationalist domestic terrorists by being a crazy person.

I'm mostly familiar with him thanks to him being the default leader of a US turned Fascist in the Hearts of Iron IV game (just as Earl Browder leads Communist US).

Wasn't Lovecraft a Hitler fanboy? Hell, lots of people supported Hitler before the mass murders were revealed. Shows you it was a very different time, and how far we've come, despite how far we still have to go.

Oh, man, vanilla HOI IV is just the least fun experience...

You should try the Kaiserreich mod. They have a MUCH more nuanced, developed approach to American politics, and provide a situation wherein a fascist or socialist US could realistically happen (namely, an America gutted and disenchanted with capitalism after a Great Depression that is still unabated by 1936 thanks to FDR's early death and Herbert Hoover being elected in the House in '32 and then doing jack and shit about the Depression).

In KR, Pelley is the leader of the KKK, and offers his assistance to Huey Long's southern American Union State when the Second American Civil War starts with MacArthur's coup. Huey can decline if player-controlled, but if you let Pelley in, he'll try to assassinate Huey and the Business Plot leaders (Henry Ford and antisemitic fanatic George Van Horn Moseley) and take over America once the Civil War is over, creating a fascist nightmare realm where black people are literally enslaved, Syndicalists are sent to concentration camps and worked to death, the administration bans actual science in favor of crazy conspiracy theories so well over ONE MILLION PEOPLE are crippled by a polio epidemic, any religion but Christian Identity's interpretation of Protestantism is banned, and Pelley reforms the nation (after many, many purges and millions upon millions of deaths) into a decaying, theocratic-fascist Christian Commonwealth of America.

Pelley is a bad, bad dude in KR.

of course you can also kill Pelley or refuse his help, in which case Huey declares himself the New Washington, and sets about becoming American Putin with more military belligerence and less hardline social conservatism (see, because Pelley turns on Huey, Huey eradicates the KKK by flat-out killing anyone who he can confirm is a member, then as a final Fuck You to Pelley ends Jim Crow de jure (de jure, not necessarily de facto)). Huey's kinda fun in a douchebag arrogant ass way.

On the Red side in the 2ACW, there's the Syndicalists (DeLeonists and Bakunin-style anarchists and CNT-FAI style anarcho-syndicalist and anarcho-socialists all mashed up) led by Jack Reed, James P. Cannon, and Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, who want to reform the USA into a left-wing democracy called the Commonwealth of America and democratize the workplace, and the vanguardists (commies) led by Earl Browder and William Z. Foster, who want to turn the USA into a Bolshevik-inspired communist regime. I usually pick Comrade Flynn because FEMALE POTUS IN 1940, that's kinda my jam lol.

The KR politics are WAY deeper than in vanilla, and nowhere is it more apparent than in the US.

I've heard Gamergate and the Dark Web are connected to the far right evangelical roots. That true?

And now we still have lots of Hitler fanboys, and they go around in organized marches with tiki torches.

Lovecraft isn't a great example though, because he's the kind of guy who would make a KKK grand wizard go "Uh, no offense, but aren't you kinda hung up on this whole Race thing? Like, chill out, have some sweet tea and take a breather. Don't make everything about race."

The vast majority of evangelicals support the Republican party. Given that the party thinks it's sound, morally defensible, public policy to do nothing to prevent catastrophic climate change, to effectively revoke the principle of one-person-one-vote, and to put migrant children in concentration camps, 'Republican' is pretty much the definition of an evil nutjob. Evangelicals are evil nutjobs for what they enable.

Ever hear about tankies? They're people who defend Stalin and his attempts to guide us into a better world. Reminds me of your quote in your sig. "There's nothing so terrible someone won't support it." On the same token, I truly believe there is no low humans won't sink to, and there's always someone out there devising new ones to sink to that no one has conceived of prior. To make history in all the wrong ways. Never underestimate the appetite for human depravity.

Gamergate is an anti-SJW, anti-ideology, secular alignment that has closer ties to the 'rationalist' community than to evangelicals.

The Dark Web is an umbrella term for websites that are accessed through the TOR onion system. It's primarily a place for people to buy/sell drugs and other black market goods online.

The " 'intellectual' dark web" is alt-right.
