What would be a good hypothetical starting point for STG?

After the Dominion War, the other powers in the Alpha/Beta Quadrant start to blame the Federation for alerting the Dominion to the existence of the wormhole and setting into motion the events that led to the war. And they are happy with what they perceive to be the reckless exploration of the Federation, exposing the Alpha/Beta Quadrant to outside threats. Facing pressure from so many other powers, the Federation creates the joint expedition with the Klingons and Romulans to help ensure that the interests of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant are protected.

The show would be about Starfleet trying to convince the other races of the value of exploration and venturing into the unknown. The Romulans and Klingons would try to prove that there's too much risk and they need to be more isolationist to protect themselves from the dangers out there. And there would also be a healthy dose of intrigue and scheming.

They suffered the most during the Dominion War. They would be in a much weaker position to get what they want through force or intimidation. But they also have an opportunity to greatly improved their reputation. They can spread the propaganda that they did the most to protect the Alpha Quadrant from the Dominion. They'll support popular sentiment blaming the Federation for exposing the Quadrant to the threat of the Dominion to weaken the Federation's position against them and gain allies and support while they rebuild their military.

I saw to much not TOS Klingons for me to get used to that...

TNG era Klingons could play the politics game too. Duras maintained power through assassinations, blackmail, bribes, and political maneuvering. Gowron manipulated Worf and the Federation for his own ends.

There was also the DS9 episode "Rules of Engagement," which showed that the Klingons were well aware of their reputation in the Alpha Quadrant and schemed to improve their public image.

Since they announced this I've just had this idea in my head that future Picard retired from Starfleet and became an archaeologist. I thought he could either be assigned to a Starfleet exploratory vessel as a civilian expert, or called up in a time of diplomatic crisis to act as a negotiator. I'd really like them to broaden how Federation society works outside of Starfleet, in other words, and what the relationship between Starfleet and civilian society is.
