Because Trek spinoffs always have iffy first seasons (Tng, Enterprise, etc.) they need room to grow before they find their footing.

TNG wasn't a spin-off, it was a sequel, and it at least drew inspiration from TOS. STD doesn't seem to be drawing inspiration from anything except Big Bang Theory. And Enterprise would have stayed the same from beginning to end if there wasn't a serious risk of cancellation, so Berman loosened the reins - which didn't help - otherwise it would have been static, like Voyager was, and more of a TNG Lite ripoff than an actual Trek series. DS9, you could argue, started weak, but its first season still was pretty strong, even compared to what it would become, and is light-years above STD.

My point is some shows start out bad but find their footing later on if given a chance.

I doubt that will happen with STD given the same writer is staying aboard for Season 3, I hear. And even developing later doesn't excuse the hot garbage that is its foundation. Not even Season 1 TNG was THIS bad. Mostly jerking back and forth between pure rampant ham silliness and being bland, boring, stupid, and stuck in the old days of TOS.

Just because DISCO does not improve i don't think it will lead to a long bitter and miserable fan civil war.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:32 pm I don't think STD will improve even with time. TNG was the first sequel series, so it wasn't beholden to a larger continuity to the same degree as today. DS9 had a much stronger start than most people think. And Voyager Season 1 is pretty much the same as Voyager anywhere else. Same as Enterprise.
I think Trek fans are used to mediocre product and Galaxy is coming.
That is what we were arguing about.

Yes but this sets a precedent for more mediocre Trek in the future, just as the last Trek did for this.Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 8:26 amJust because DISCO does not improve i don't think it will lead to a long bitter and miserable fan civil war.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:32 pm I don't think STD will improve even with time. That is not what me and my dance partner argued about. It's better than bad and there is not much i can do.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 9:26 amYes but this sets a precedent for more mediocre Trek in the future, just as the last Trek did for this.Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 8:26 amJust because DISCO does not improve i don't think it will lead to a long bitter and miserable fan civil war.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Tue Feb 26, 2019 10:32 pm I don't think STD will improve even with time. It's "peta'Q", assuming you're going for the Klingon insult. YOU FAIL. TURN IN YOUR NERD CARD.
Also, generally speaking, I'm not sure why you're reacting this way to Slash, and this seems like an elaborate way of saying you're ignoring him. Or doing so while padding your post count.
