Korra - Season 3

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

The new video on Su Yin and Beifong is incredible peak SFdebris content. Just fantastically put together.

Yeah. I never thought about it that way, but he has a really good analysis of the character. That's what I come here for.

I always disliked Lin but this... this is WAY better a summary than I had. I always had this feeling but this is why people listen to reviews and critics, they can put it in words you can instantly recognize. Woman always felt fake as hell.

One thing that I really enjoy about this season and why I think it's the most popular in the show, with some arguing that it's even better then The Last Airbender, is how well it utilizes most of the cast. It's more of an ensemble season this time around instead of just keeping focus on Team Avatar and Tenzin while never forgetting that Korra is the main character as she's the one who's still driving most of the plot forward and she's the one most changed by the events of the story.

The only character I feel is underutilized is Mako who doesn't get much to do this season. Asami has her growing relationship with Korra, Tenzin is rebuilding the Air Nation, Lin has her relationship with Sue, Bolin trying to learn Metalbending and Jinora has her arc of becoming an Airbending Master. Mako... kinda, has the arc of getting over his breakup with Korra and Asami... only not really because after the first episode he has no real issue working with either girl and it just kinda resolves itself with little to no effort on anyone's part.

Both Korra and Asami just kinda get on with their life, tease Mako one time and then that's it. And with the show starting to set up Korrasami as endgame that leaves Mako with basically nothing. His family drama is resolved in the same episode it was introduced in, he has no real personal struggles, gets very few moments to shine and most of those are overshadowed by other events and or characters. For me it just really emphasis that Mako is really the most worthless character in Avatar right now. He basically has no real use, it really dull, suffers little no real issues, just kinda gets what he wants and or needs and then it's over.

Asami gets more then him and she has less screen time and dialogue but, she's also this ultra badass who often loses everything dear to her yet she keeps moving forward.

Yeah, Mako is kind of a nothingburger this season. That's partly why I wrote a fanfiction where Korra eats him.

 Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooookay!

But moving on from... that! I feel that Mako never really gets a chance to develop past him just a love interest for Korra and Asami. Like that's his whole identity to be their love interest as soon as he loses that he has nothing to really fall back on.

His relationship with Bolin, barely talked about throughout the series. The death of his parents, only really relevant in one episode after they're mentioned. Him being a cop, pretty much dropped after season 2. Wu gets more development then Mako and he's basically the Neelix of Avatar.

Mako's best development was when he was Wu's bodyguard. And then it was basically just "comically annoyed employee".
