Cellphones but not smartphones.
Internet but not social media.
Video games but no microtransactions or live service.
Hollywood was in a golden age.
Television was in a golden age.
Bill Clinton and Tony Blair in office.
No AI. Booming economy. None of the restrictions that came post 9/11. China and Russia were pretending to be our friends.

I'm just saying. Having experienced 1999 I do not believe that 2024 is in any way an improvement.
General improvements on our collective acceptance and treatment of women, people of color, autistic people, and non-cishet people? Well, incrementally... and rather tenuously, it seems...

Yeah true, not all bad, although a lot of that was sadly an illusion. Attitudes were pushed underground rather than being erased or changed. It's not a Resurgent Boomer thing either - many teachers are very worried about just how widespread the cancer of Andrew Tate is in schools today.

Social progress always recieves a reactionary backlash. At least same-sex marriage is legal (for now). I wouldn't call it illusory so much as fragile.

Societal is the one of the most permanent ones. Ones that happen naturally on its own or through more progressive means. Women's Rights in the past 200 years for example. But even then still got deep seated issues in there as well. I mean as far a we have become as a society we still need to improve on that.

While it is true that in the past 30 years that there has been alot of progress for the gay community but at same time it's still sitting on a fragile base that could be broken by the likes of Trump. Even the Women's Movements of the past 100 years could be set back.

I have my own person issues with how the Woman's Rights aaka feminism has progressed but that doesn't mean I want to see them revert to a status of 70 years ago or worse. I have zero issue with the LGBT+ community personally and I certainly don't want to see the progress that has been done in thd past 20 years be undone because of a large group's lack of comfort (aka not normal in their eyes) politics.
I got nothing to say here.

I agree especially with that last point. If not for your own sake, then for the sake of those who follow us in future years. This isn't just Trump or just MAGA. It's all those who enable it and, argueably, it doesn't start or even end with the Republicans, but also the Democrats to a degree, because they keep refusing to pull the rug und what enabled this alongside the Republican establishment: Musk, Thiel and Co; Voter-Disenfranchisement (Gerrymandering); trying to "be bipartisan" and just generally the complete failure of the "center" to refuse to let them slowly be dragged to the right by trying to appease the far right politically and legislatively. You don't prevent Nazis by implementing lighter versions of Nazi policies. You justify their actions by doing that.

Gaetz withdrew from the nomination. So, small victories, sill hope they lock him up.

Oh, and he resigned his House seat for the AG position, so he's seemingly just OUT OF WASHINGTON, now.
