Sean Patrick Flanery was amazing as Young Indy. He was believable and emulated subtle parts of Ford's character without ever feeling like parody or mimicry. Unfortunately he's too old now to play a "Young Han Solo". It would have been pretty hilarious (and awesome) if they had used him to make this film back in the 1990s.

I have a hard time getting excited about Solo. At the risk of conflating a bunch of unique, opinionated individuals with a corporate hegemony, I find Disney more than a little hypocritical with their "Move on from the old and explore the new" talking point. They've been perfectly willing to camp out on the old as long as they can cash in on it. There is absolutely nothing about Han Solo in the OT (or TFA for that matter) that says that we need to explore his backstory. How Han met Chewie or what exactly the Kessel Run is might interest some fans, but things like that are hardly worth making a movie about.

It would be one thing if Han Solo had a mysterious past or was an unusual character, but he's just a lovable rogue. Lovable rogues are a dime a dozen. What made Han Solo special is Harrison Ford, and Harrison Ford is obviously not in this movie. We already know exactly where the character ends up, so I really don't see the point (outside $$$ for Disney).

I feel like the whole franchising movement has led to really bad worldbuilding and an undervaluing of subtext and backstory. Sometimes details are better left as just that. What Star Trek Discovery did with its pilot is a prime example of the issue.

With all that said, I had some of the same thoughts about Rogue One and I thought that turned out extremely well, so I guess I'll wait and see. Still, I have reservations that a good trailer isn't going to put to rest.

As to Lucas Films....I think they know they can't rely on nostalgia forever, which is why Rian Johnson and the Game of Thrones crew are being given their own trilogies. At the same time...they might as well cash in on Nostalgia while they can.

It had nearly looked as if there might not be much to see until Alita, but First Man will probably be interesting. Does it count as Science Fiction if it's fictionalized Space Science?

Fox wanted to do their Once Upon a Deadpool experiment, which had to happen right before Christmas otherwise the title wouldn't fit as well, so February was the next closest open available timeslot.

Taking another look ahead through June -- the only other Sci-Fi releases are Chaos Walking and Captive State. The first has Robert Zemeckis involved, and the second stars John Goodman.

I don't get this whole Once Upon a Deadpool thing. All I can gather is that kids will be able to see it in theaters without their parents, and also people just like Ryan Reynoldeadpools, but for people that already saw the R-rated movies in theaters, I wouldn't think this would be as hyped of a development as it is.

That's 2nd big screen attempt of adapting Dune. I do think that Dune might be too huge and ambitions to adapt as film like both David Lynch's version and that Sci-Fi channel mini series proves.
