Given that you've made it clear you're not a leftist or progressive, I'm not going to assume any advice you give about how to further progressive causes is given in good faith. From a game theory standpoint, your goals would be served if you advised us leftists to a course of action that results in self sabotage.Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 8:28 pm AND DON'T DEFUND THE POLICE. No. That will drive POC out of the DNC in droves, as 2020, so if your goal is to keep losing progressive causes, go ahead.

Yeah, look at places they've actually cut funding to cops. Who's being hit the hardest? POC are now begging for cops. But I thought the young, white progressives knew what's best for them?McAvoy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 5:01 amYou hit the nail in the last paragraph. But at the same time there shouldn't be walking a fine line on fringe left and right. There is a reason why they are fringe. But the problem is that we never honestly see the moderates we always see the extreme versions of the left and right.Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 8:28 pm I find it so amusing this is the constitution of our modern-day cops. When I say we all need thicker skin as a society, obviously I include our boys in blue, not just SJWs. Politicians as well. And street protesters, obviously, or you're gonna get exactly the escalation you claim to hate in law enforcement.
Some of my ex-vet friends mourn how, and I agree here, that US law enforcement is less efficiently trained than the corps. Like, the US military has stricter firearm control on foreign citizens than American citizens. I wish we could give up the cowboy fantasies.
There are plenty well-trained cops here, depending on the department, but I think we need more social workers, less protection of police unions, bodycams, and OFC, training in de-escalation. I'd go the extra mile and say add rigorous psychological screening. Eh, but that's "Scandinavian socialism," so I guess we can't have that due to the stupid labels we put on everything. AND DON'T DEFUND THE POLICE. No. That will drive POC out of the DNC in droves, as 2020, so if your goal is to keep losing progressive causes, go ahead.
For my money, I say, walk a fine line between the hard fringe left and right. Respect the police, like the right, but be wary of them, like the left. Either extreme is impractical. The middle is where it's at. And yeah, preposition problems. Sue me.
There has to be a middle ground. To be honest with ourselves and the subject matter. Nearly 700,000 cops in the whole US. A handful of that make the news for the very wrong reasons and the rest of those 700k cops are now automatically the bad guys.
The middle ground is to be honest that there should be a country wide reform of training and evaluation. But at the same time there is absolute no need to disband thd police force or there is absolutely no need to have full trust of the whole force.

I dunno; disbanding and rebuilding seems to have worked tolerably well for Camden.

Assuming the DNC still has their traditional hold on POC, why do y'all think Mr. Trump increased his performance among POC? That his coalition not only exceeded 2016 totals, therefore dispelling any notion about "Russian bots" the left loves to use to rationalize whatever they do and ward off criticism, but was somehow more diverse than Mr. Romney's 2012 makeup? The reason would be insanity like wanting to defund police. Exit polls have shown this.
Take it from someone who actually talks to Florida's Hispanic populations within my own town. Why do you think Florida went red? Because many Latinos and Latinas I know not only hate woke with a passion (very few if any I've ever met used terms like "LatinX"), they just flat don't agree with that sentiment and on immigration, they tend to be more conservative. But by all means, keep rationalizing all those blue checkmarks, it's just the evil "rich, white, old, male, cis-het" a-holes in the country causing problems. That's not gonna keep forever if you want POC as your allies.
Law enforcement is one of the many basic foundations to a modern human society, and I get this concept about structural decay, I FEEL it everywhere in my neck of the woods, we're an empire in decline with far greater days behind us. I do understand that. I've felt we're in the new gilded age, and it's high time to either address it or stop denying it.
But when your house is rotting from termites, do you just start ripping apart all the wood planks and sheetrock, hoping that slows their spread? No. Because that's pure lunacy. It won't work. You address the root cause, not the symptom. I can't help but wonder if many fringe SJWs want less cops so it's easier for vigilante justice over wrongs from decades and centuries ago, which I have remarked on prior. But then their idea of street "justice" doesn't line up to the silent majority, who aren't reactionary loons or woke nuts. Ah, but they're just "guilty of upholding an unjust system." Silly me, what WAS I thinking?

Seems to mainly be 'leftist talking points so dumb even those who'd benefit from them hate them. Also, said leftists are just looking for a reason to be offended and firebomb stuff.' You know, the usual.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 4:08 am Necromancer, are you able to even make sense of his claims?
Also, as I've mentioned before, of course no one uses 'latinix': it's a term wholly created by white American academia as the gender-neutral alt to Latino and Latina. Problems: 1) The letter 'X' doesn't work like that in Latine languages, so no one the term would describe can even pronounce it, 2) They ALREADY HAVE A ONE: 'Latine'. You just remove that last syllable. It's redundant AND nonsensical.

"Group of people who were granted a propaganda-motivated exemption to the draconian rules inflicted on other refugees and immigrants lack empathy for people in worse straights and wish to pull up the ladder behind them, ALSO have garbage opinions on police and policing"?
