Thats fair that might be why many people preferred the Doctor with Romana back when she was on the show irl chemistry aside.Frustration wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 10:34 pm
Also why I disliked Twelve's relationship with Clara. Even with a transcendent temporal existence, she's not the Doctor's intellectual equal (no human is), and even if the Doc respected her morally, it doesn't make sense for him to be so attached to her that he'd place the entire universe in danger. It's just not who he is. River Song's doing so was glorious romantic idiocy, but she doesn't start out a hero but becomes one.

Re: 14th Doctor Announced
Honestly this is why I think the best companion in modern Who was Donna. Not in love with him, not awed by his power and knowledge, not putting up with his bullshit. And frankly I think it made her a better friend than any of the others.
Clara could have been a good character, and was in a few episodes, but she had such a bad case of Janeway Syndrome with a different personality every episode that it totally defused her.

Black transwoman has been recast as Rose Tyler.
...
Still want to argue with me that the BBC isn't doubling down after the failure of Thirteen?

Re: 14th Doctor Announced
They COULD just be reusing a somewhat common first name for a new character. Wouldn't be the first time, we've had two Ranis running around. Still odd, but until they actually call her Rose TYLER, I'm giving Davies the benefit of the doubt. Hell, maybe it's an actual plot point.clearspira wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 5:49 am https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/hearts ... 235268305/

All I can gather is that the character she'll be playing is simply called "Rose", that's it. The article pulled the Rose Tyler reference out of its behind as a possibility.
So yes, I'm still going to argue with you until we get actual proof not speculation.

There's an awful lot of English flower names they could have used as an alternative. Yes, in the real world people just share names sometimes, but this isn't reality - this is FICTION!

Re: 14th Doctor Announced
Okay, going from the rumor mill, the character's full name is Rose TEMPLE-NOBLE. Ha! It IS a plot point! That seal on Donna's memories of The Doctor/the memories she absorbed during the meta-crisis must be getting weaker.
Oddly enough, a similar thing happened when they encountered Agatha Christie. Yeah, Donna gave Christie the idea for "Murder on the Orient Express" and Miss Marple, but then Christie got mindwiped while fighting the giant space wasp and that's how her infamous fugue-state-induced disappearance happened. One of my all-time favorite Doc Who stories.

Whatever is going on I can't wait to see Ncuti in the role and I will miss Jodie like I miss every doctor when they leave the role.

Yep, exactly. Writing 101. Don't confuse your audience. Its why there aren't two Harry's in Harry Potter despite it being one of the most common British names.Frustration wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 6:29 pm There's an awful lot of English flower names they could have used as an alternative. Its also why you don't call a singular person ''they'' but I digress.
Re: 14th Doctor Announced
Its a show that has been going for almost 60 years there was bound to be reused names sooner or later.
