Not to turn this into a tawdry tabloid, but since 2015 he's gotten divorced, engaged, lost his dog, and then had some illnesses culminating in a root canal. He's nowhere near GRRM territory.LittleRaven wrote:However, something has changed with Jim lately. He used to pump out multiple books a year, and as far as I can tell, he hasn't put anything out since 2015. Hope everything is ok with him.

Well, his son is reaching teenage IIRC, so there is that. But I also wonder if it's from Butcher taking the time to write the comics and the novelettes/short stories and such. He might be spreading himself a bit too thin.
...and then I see the new post about divorces and engagements and root canals and dogs.... youch. Yeah, that explains it.

So, I finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and...
Chris Pratt as Harry Dresden, yes or no?

Maybe, but later-series Harry is pretty muscular/athletic. He even comments on it in Skin Game, I believe (I just finished re-listening to the audio book).ORCACommander wrote:i think he could pull off dresden's delivery and snark but he has gotten way to buff
I think the moment, more than any other, that clinched it for me, is when Star Lord found out that Ego killed his mother. That ability to go from the goofy wise ass pop culture geek to a unleashing fury at even a god because it hurt someone he cares about- that's Harry Dresden.
Tiny print to avoid massive GotG spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Brief Cases has been completed, so hopefully Butcher can finally finish up Peace Talks now.

Re: The Dresden Files General Discussion Thread.
Hopefully.
I'm curious to see what will happen with Murphy in Skin Game. While I don't mind Butters the Knight in and of itself, I was annoyed that Murphy was made into a washed up screw-up, crippled, and apparently sidelined/reduced to just the love interest in order for it to happen. Hopefully Peace Talks can do something to redeem Murphy's arc and characterization.
Also hoping to see the first interactions between Ward/Knight Dresden and the Council (besides the Gatekeeper). Should be interesting. I think we're especially overdue for a return of Ebineezer, now that Harry knows Ebineezer is his grandfather.

Re: The Dresden Files General Discussion Thread.
Murphy is being put through the wringer, and it makes perfect sense for her to bottom out like this; there is close to zero percent chance that this is the end of her character development.
Anyway, things I'm looking forward to reading:
1. The Butters short story.
2. Molly telling her parents about the new job.
3. Ebenezer and Thomas.
4. Harry's other 'daughter'.
Also, I know he's a minor character, but I really want to find out what happened to Agent Tilly (from Changes). He's a low-level practitioner who had the masquerade removed from his eyes rather forcibly - he's got to make another appearance before the BAT, right?

As long as it leads somewhere good, somewhere that makes sense for the character, I think I can forgive it.Independent George wrote:Murphy is being put through the wringer, and it makes perfect sense for her to bottom out like this; there is close to zero percent chance that this is the end of her character development.
Yes.Anyway, things I'm looking forward to reading:

Hell yes.2. Molly telling her parents about the new job.
Isn't Harry of the view that spreading that connection around would be a very bad thing?3. Ebenezer and Thomas.
Yeah. And also how Maggie deals with Spirit Sister.4. Harry's other 'daughter'.
And reg. Maggie... how old is she now? Is she going to be old enough to join in Daddy's adventures in time for the BAT?
There is a theme throughout the series of mortals becoming aware of the supernatural and actually proving useful, and heavy hints that secrecy will fail and the mortal militaries get involved big time before the end. Perhaps most notably in Small Favour, where Murphy suggests calling in the cops/military en mass against the Denarians under the pretext of their being terrorists, and Harry, IIRC, replies with something like "Its a good idea, but I don't think its time has come yet."Also, I know he's a minor character, but I really want to find out what happened to Agent Tilly (from Changes). My guess is that Tilly will provide a contact/liason between Dresden and company and the government when shit hits the fan.
Re: The Dresden Files General Discussion Thread.
I do remember this but I also remember that the network pulled this show because it was bringing in a demo they didn't want.
