Thank you.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 4:13 pm I loved Gina Carano but I am just so fucking SICK of the double standard.
I have heard for YEARS and YEARS that people should have the freedom to run their businesses how they want. I even used to believe it back in my fundamentalist days. To be able to hire or fire people or serve them not. This was the Right's mantra. That it was your business and you had the right to run it the way YOU wanted to.
Now we have this BULLSHIT that a private company with a history of mild gay activism (which the Southern Baptists boycotted them over) can't terminate a contract with an actress who won't shut the fuck up about something on social media. Note: Disney has morals contracts for this exact sort of thing so its not like she wasn't warned. It's not even a decision you have to make on ideology, it's the idea that it hurts the brand of their fucking kid's franchise.
And you know what? It's because the Right is scared of the numbers there because it means that Disney crunched them and found, "Go bigot, go bankrupt" is a bigger deal than "go woke, go broke."
It gets worse because Gina threw away the biggest acting job of her career with 7 figures at least and her own Star Wars show because she couldn't stay off social media. Which even if she was a RAGING BIGOT OR SAINT was something that any marketing manager should have warned her about.
It seems ridiculous to try to boil this down to purely a product of social media cancel culture with political implications. It's not like it's even a hard battle on that front, but the heart of the issue is really more of a conservative entity that isn't conforming to broader conservative agendas with people complaining of hypocrisy based on a leftist standard.
