I do regret we didn't see more of the Harhesis. Seeing Daniel as an ascended parent would have opened some interesting paths dramatically. Like Q and q, only with less omnipotent jackass laughs and more Buddhist style contemplation.

Now that you mention it that would had been interesting to see. It's totally something that I would see Daniel and Harhesis doing.

It'd be an interesting dynamic, as Shifu would be the wiser of the two, but still have the innocence of a kid looking up to his 'stepdad'.

Wow, is that really true? Jonas was such a breath of fresh air, and Daniel (Shanks was right) had become stale. And when he comes back, he comes back wrong. Such a shame if they wrecked this story because of fan perception.

Looking back on this episode Jonas is the least worst thing to it; he and his planet simply were underused while the whole ascension pulled the ground out from show and allowed the Ancients more involvement into it that were the primary reason why I began to drift from the show.

SG-1 had a horrible bloating of scale happen to it that ruined the setting for me.

You gotta love the hypocrisy of the SGC in this.

"You can't build bombs with this stuff. It's too dangerous! We want it to build shields!"

A couple years later they have a shit-load of Naquadria based bombs "designed solely for the purpose of vaporizing Stargates and anything else in a one-hundred mile radius. Now we have a number of these god-awful things at our disposal." They didn't just build these things on a whim right then and there. They were likely developing the technology for some time before.

Actually one of the more realistic elements to the show that's also echoed by the second guessing some countries are having signing the Ottawa Treaty suddenly realizing the practical values of land mines.

Yeah, early in season 5, Shanks wanted to leave, so the writers arranged for him to make his exit at the end of S5, and planned to have Jonas replace Daniel for S6. But fans were immediately upset with Daniel's death, and started internet petitions and letter-writing campaigns. When S6 came around and Jonas was clearly "the new Daniel", many upset fans wrongly directed their anger towards Jonas and were unwilling to give him a fair chance.

So, early in season 6, the writers arranged to have Daniel make his return at the end of S6, and planned to have Daniel replace Jonas for S7.

Jonas apparently climbed in popularity as S6 went on and people got to know Jonas and had a chance to warm up to him, but it wasn't enough for the producers to change their minds about bringing Daniel back, nor was Jonas popular enough to get them to increase the show's budget and pay to keep both Jonas and Daniel.

I just checked out what Corin Nemec was actually up to, since his departure and only now realize, that he was Parker Lewis. It is... embarassing to never have realized that obvious fact.

You saying this has likewise alerted me to this fact. I am going, oh yeah I guess I see it. To be fair actual teenager actors often end up looking significantly different as adults (as in say the guy who plays Fez on That 70s Show, I did not realize he was Torres on NCIS until I saw him introduced as such in an appearance). I guess just because Parker Lewis can't lose doesn't mean we can't lose Parker Lewis...

People are saying that Jonas Quinn was different from Daniel Jackson and on paper they are different, but in terms of what they actually do on the show I have to say not so much. Jonas Quinn was the trope namer for Suspiciously Similar Substitute for awhile. The other thing I remember about Quinn, who is supposed to be from another planet, is that his name sounds less exotic (in North America anyway) than his actor's name Corin Nemec.

One sometimes gets the impression that Ascended ancients are constantly up to something, manipulating subtle backgrounds in far flung realms to keep things going, but apparently that it is abstract and of dubious value from the perspective of humans and the like.

I liked to imagine aliens that had decided that ascension was actually a downgrade and referred to the Ancients, Ori etc. as lesser beings and so things like being incorporeal and so on where bad demeaning things (I mean bacteria can do all kinds of things we can't but few would want to be one). This makes Oma a dangerous temptress and Daniel Jackson either exceptionally noble for twice having escaped from such a state or exceptionally corrupt for twice having willingly subjected himself to it...

Usually, I LOATHE the new Darren. But Jonas was OK. I was just disappointed that they never did anything with him. He was just deputy Daniel. The only difference betwwen these 2 generic good guys is that Daniel is a USA Patriot and Jonas is a Patriot for his own Homeland. They never did anything with Jonas to make him a thing.

TNG Gorgon = Pulaski shone in Pen-Pals when she wanted to rescue the child while Riker was wanking all over the hope of Genocide.

Jonas was never given the chance to shine. Very disappointing.
