And, honestly DBF, you tend to go around in circles after a while. Fuzzy DID come on a bit strong, though.
It's because I am starting to see the left as less and less different then the right, sure, they aren't quite as bad YET. And there are some individual exceptions but for one thing, the system hurts and kills the good cops too, but no one cares about them.
Because that's a symptom, not the illness. Which is that the VAST MAJORITY of our police forces are either corrupt or complicit in said corruption.
I can't see that, a big enough chunk to negatively impact minority communities but not the vast majority.
Again, I have no problem being against the Chinese police because they are basically the Frieza Force but I don't see American police being like that.

It's not a soldier's job to de-escalate.
Cops are not trained like soldiers. They don't have the same objectives and goals as soldiers. They don't have the same rules of engagement as soldiers. They don't serve the same function in society as soldiers. They are NOT soldiers and should not be treated as such.
Most soldiers have both more training in de-escolation and stricter rules of engagement than cops. And while soldiers often get away with horrendous crimes, the army will at least occasionally bring one of thier own to justice, something that cannot be said for the cops.
Shame that 'militarizing' our police forces doesn't do any of that and just makes the guns bigger.
On paper it does sound like a good idea to use the military as an example to train and enforce the rules. Problem is that on the whole, the military doesn't deal alot with the public on a day to day basis in their official role. Best you can use is how the military operates in foreign countries like Iraq or Afghanistan.
