Police prepared for January 6th attack-- they prepared for Anti-Trump protestors

I'm still depressed that he hasn't been charged with treason and worried that the next coup will be better managed.

The worst punishment for armed insurrection was 5 years.

Recently, registering to vote was punished with 6 years.

Chris Christie has said that Trump surrounded himself with snake oil salesmen (which is apparent) who fed him dainty institutional information regarding Pence's authority, and I feel that acting on that would be a new low for Trump's intelligence, all of which I mostly have trouble comprehending.
I mean, Pence couldn't overturn the election. Dan Quayle of all people said it was impossible and if Trump TRIED to do it, they would have had to have escorted him out and it would be up to the cops and military to support the President (Joe Biden).

But he thought he could because there's never been a situation Trump didn't think by saying he won instead of lost didn't work out because of his lawyers or money.

Yes that's what we've been talking about for 5 years really. At this point, Trump talking about it serves mainly to rile up his constituency in the form of people that live under a rock and don't care to know any better. That or they will agree that the system is broken because of that and will vote for him in order to reform the system.

I'm not sure I'd want to live in a system where reform is, "I don't care what the majority or the law thinks if I lose."

Or, to paraphrase the right-wings most consistent platform: "forget you, I WILL get mine".

We basically saw the GOP go through their own micro fallout to fascism.

I dunno man, I don't know what's possible any more. I spent the four years of 45's presidency learning that lots of things we thought were enforceable laws had just been gentleman's agreements that anyone with enough chutzpah could just ignore.

I feel that "the person elected President is not the President" is one of those things that should be enforced against with guns.

What's your take now?

I can't say it wasn't ugly. I didn't really know how the investigation was going to turn out, but I never thought of anything he did as a smoking gun really.
