Re: Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?
I'd say the film is somewhere around the middle of the MCU. Similar to a Doctor Strange or Ant-Man. The first Act has the most issues with it being a bit difficult to follow but things smooth out once we reach earth. brie Larson is very endearing particularly during her 'fish out of water' moments. One of Sam Jackson's best performances in the franchise and an antagonist that's both enjoyable and surprising.
It doesn't break much new ground for the MCU except finally having a female MC after over ten years. If you like the MCU you'll like this. If you have any young female relatives, definitely bring them along.
Also, plenty 90s jokes that people of my generation will appreciate.

Yeah, I’m not really seeing a substantial blowback on this one. I still maintain SOLO’s wasn’t blowback but poor marketing on Disney’s part as they didn’t even bother promoting it until very late because they have this odd predilection with Star Wars not to cross promote. I was really surprised we didn’t get a trailer for the time TLJ came out, because that’s typically how Marvel does it. I remember seeing the trailer of INFINITY WAR right before BLACK PANTHER played.
But I suppose we won’t truly know until IX comes out (and I’m really surprised they haven’t even announced a title yet).

Shows where your head is at I guess. I've never heard it in that context, personally. I've only ever heard of it in the context of my fellow nerds discussing our interests with each other and how our fun tends to get ruined whenever the normies get involved.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 9:13 amI'm only familiar with it being described as redpill talk.

No, it's pretty obvious what happened, and being only 5 months after TLJ didn't do it any favors either.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 1:54 pm Yeah, I’m not really seeing a substantial blowback on this one. JJ Abrams is rather infamous for keeping a lid on things for as long as possible. And given the blowback from TLJ, Disney is probably pressuring him even more about it.But I suppose we won’t truly know until IX comes out (and I’m really surprised they haven’t even announced a title yet).

Goose: The Cat Who Will Kill Thanos and Supplant Dr. Doom and Galactus as The Phase Four MCU Big Bad (otherwise known as Captain Marvel) opened with a superb $61.382 million on Friday, counting $20.7m in Thursday preview grosses. That’s (obviously and understandably) a much bigger opening day than the $38m Friday for Wonder Woman, which makes sense since the MCU is a trusted brand while the DC Films franchise was/is still on double-secret-probation. I’d like to think that Patty Jenkins is reading this while sitting in Hall of Doom petting and evil cat as she plots her revenge (while James Wan tries to convince her to produce a $20m-budgeted spin-off based on Diana’s lasso or favorite hat). Let’s just consider what happens over the next month to be #WonderWoman1984Goals.
Oh, and the film earned another $33.5 million in China (-2% from its $34m opening day) for a $67.7m two-day cume and likely $91m opening weekend over there. The MCU flick has now, counting China's Saturday gross, earned just over $221m globally and should top $350m by tomorrow night.

Abrams is known for that, but that didn't happen with TFA as we already had a title and teaser trailer a full year before it came out. I imagine Disney is just using a strategy they've been currently using lately. AVENGERS 4 didn't get a title or trailer until December, which is six months before release. Perhaps they're saving IX's teaser and title in time for ENDGAME's release.
Re: Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?
Maybe. The other aspect is that when TFA was coming out, people were thirsty for new Star Wars and were anxious to see what the new management was going to do with it. Not so much the case now.

Right now it's 79% critic and 52% audience.
Still good on critic and quite a boost with audience.

Must be a leftist agenda that bumped the audience score.
