I kind of despise the comic versions of Black Panther. I liked the cartoon iteration from "Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes" and I liked this movie's version the most, but the comic character consistently makes bad political decisions for poorly explained reasons, taking sides in the comic Civil War being the best example.

The most recent run of Black Panther comics has been trying to fix that previous characterization....and even repair (on some level) T'Challa's relationship to Ororo.
Priest said he always thought their marriage was a mistake because:
1. The whole point of their original relationship was she was the one who got away
2. You can't have them married without one becoming a supporting character to the other's book

I was going to point to that too. Because that relationship was a retcon to include them in each others lives. But it felt like a separate issue. It was bad writing, and still is bad writing. But it is not game breaking. His bone headed political "wisdom" is.
In the cartoon, he replaces the trial by combat government with democratic reforms. When I saw that I gave the screen a thumbs up.

I always was kind of meh on that because one of the things about Black Panther I liked is because he's a progressive reformer but the average Wakandan, if they had the right to vote, would be, "Isolate us forever and drive out the refugees we took in." It's a cynical dark take on democracy but an interesting one.
