Robovski wrote: Sat Mar 16, 2019 3:22 am You are the one calling things racist and making this about race. It's like you cannot argue this without making it about racism.
...because it's pretty much always about racism? Especially when people start literally retreading 19th century arguments about how "that country of brown people is in a bad state because of their culture" or whatever.

Racism is very much alive and well, pal. It's just been given a facelift by the neo-Nazis on hives like 8chan and Gab.
Somehow the racism is always other people, not in the soft expectations of the people calling people racists, the interpretation that illegal immigrants are just brown people, that uncontrolled immigration could be a bad thing for the countries these people leave, the same countries that are amazing places with a deep culture that somehow isn't worth staying in, that the cleptocratic governments in power in those places do not deserve criticism because somehow that is racist too...

But it's all racism, racism all the way down.
Correct. Because when people complain about immigration, they really don't admire the "amazing" cultures they blame for people's problems, they don't criticize the kleptocratic governments except to criticize the nations they rule in general, and they really do see immigrants as just "foreign hordes" or whatever.

Dude, racism is basically omnipresent in the USA. And not just the obvious types like the Klan and President Moron.

We don't even HAVE a unified culture! The USA has so many different people of so many different origins it isn't even funny. My dad's side is Scots-Irish (lowland Scots who immigrated to Ulster and then to America in the 17th century) Presbyterians going back before the Revolution and my mom's part-Potawatomi and part Saxon German. I'm an atheist whose immediate family celebrates Christmas as a family dinner and present-exchange with no major religious elements, none of us have stepped foot in a church for a decade at least, we ate a mixture of Italian, Thai, and English dishes for most of my childhood, we speak English and play gridiron and regular football both, etc.. How much of that is a unified American cultural tradition? What even IS a unified American cultural tradition? Is there ANY culture that we have failed to adapt, adapt to, and integrate?

Also, the alt-right LOVES to say "I'm not racist, I just don't like their culture!". It's something they picked up from the neocons, and it's been their biggest success story, to the point that it's one of Michael Burnham's arguments for attacking the Klingons in STD.

Don't give me this bullshit, Darth. You have to be better than this.
I've already answered those points and that question, Worffan. I gave you cultural points I think might be important, and I backed them up, only to have you first straw man them and then excuse them away. I already said I don't care what people eat, pray to, sing, whatever. You're always going to think I'm racist, and you'll never be able to give objective evidence why. IMHO, "it's always about race" is just your fantasy world where you get to pick the secret motives of people you want to disagree with.

I'm not going to keep arguing in circles with you. I'll just have to accept that there are some things you either cannot look at objectively or else cannot be honest about. I'm done with you on this one.

Except that those "cultural points" were STATISTICS about how many Mexican kids graduate high school, which isn't actually a cultural point but an insinuation that Mexicans are uneducated and/or lazy. If you truly know so little American history that you literally don't see the problem with this, and you're so willfully blind that you're willing to ignore the entirety of Latin American history after I AND the moderator pointed out some of the actual reasons why Mexico and other Latin American countries are in poor economic states, then you need to seriously re-evaluate why the Hell you're doing this discussion.

This isn't even an argument, this is about you refusing to acknowledge basic facts and defaulting to age-old racist cliches. And yes, I WILL keep using that word, because it's accurate.

Why does the statistic persist in the United States, where primary school isn't just free, it's mandatory and can lead to arrest if a child does not attend?

Sigh, I get so tired of people spouting the same old right-wing talking points about how the Mexicans will corrupt us with their rape and drug culture... it's just racism, like Worffan101 said.

Hilarious that Darth blocks me for "using strawmen" when his own damn argument is a strawman.

He blocked and ignores me for claiming I don't use logic, and true, while I'm prone to more emotionalism and have a lot of problems, I'm not totally devoid of logic. That was just insulting.
