No. You're the one who's saying that. You're the one saying that gun regulation is useless because it doesn't address the core cause of human evil.excalibur wrote:You're essentially saying that we can't change the human condition that we're all born with that can make any of us crazy killers and should just accept it. That we should focus on controlling people than changing them. Because that's what all things that tie into gun control is. Control of people. What do they, what they say, how they live and monitoring them even if they have done nothing wrong...yet. I can never agree with that type of mindset.
We're saying that making it harder for one misanthrope to kill a bunch of people very quickly, is a good thing. That just because perfect, absolute violence-prevention is impossible, that is no reason to throw up our hands and go "Well, people are going to be evil. Let's just turn everything into a fortress and raise our kids to be soldiers." That some of the vast resources of a society which controls and regulates so many things should maybe be turned towards regulating the things that let one person kill five people faster than you can say "hippopotamus."
This is not an unreasonable, Big Brother style incursion on personal freedoms. This is saying your rights, as a gun owner, to buy anything you want at a gun show, to buy guns before you can drink, to minimal background checks and short waiting periods and large ammunition clips, are less important than the rights of kids who trade tips on how to smear yourself with the blood of a fallen classmate and play dead.

...yeah I really doubt you are arguing in good faith as much as playing bigotry judo. I mentioned sexism and racism as causes of mass shootings, so that means that I must be the really sexist, racist person.Darth Wedgius wrote:It's not just a reaction to what seems to me to be racism and sexism on Fuzzy's part, I'm honestly curious about the answer.ORCACommander wrote: Darth You went a little too far there and went into the personal

This. This is it.excalibur wrote: You just don't like guns, have never handled guns, never carried one for defense let alone trained or even have the mindset of a person willing to fight to protect.
You say that other people don't care about gun culture, about the positive uses of guns.
I can say that I really don't.
It's not that I think they are cursed items, or inherently evil. It's just that they allow one person to kill a lot of people very ,very quickly.
And just because I'm not a gun owner, that doesn't mean I'm somebody who will never fight to protect. That doesn't mean I'm incapable of understanding that mindset. Don't let yourself believe that your gun gives you a monopoly on strength or courage.

Here you attacked an argument I hadn't made. That is what is known as a "straw man argument."Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ...yeah I really doubt you are arguing in good faith as much as playing bigotry judo. But you personally believe guns are just bad and see nothing beyond what bad people use them for. And again, you assume guns enable people, in this case the opposite. Guns don't give me strength or courage. I do that. Guns are just tools. All you want to do is see the evil that the news shovels into your mouth every time a tragedy happens. There's more incidents of people defending themselves with guns than crime caused but you won't see that on CNN.
It's not the "gun culture". It's bigger than that. Limitations enacted by governments triggered by people who don't understand or want to understand is problem.

Guns are not inherently bad by any means. My father would shoot deer and shooting rodents as a form of pest control was done by my cousins. This isn't new but it's not something city folk do. It's not uncommon for rural people though. Feeding people and pest control are something we have done since agriculture was born, and now we can use guns to do that because they are much better than the old ways.

I'm curious, why are people against having armed guards at schools? Most malls have an armed guard or a local police officer roaming around. Banks usually have them, or at least the bigger ones do. Most government buildings have them. Airports went way overboard on security. Essentially what we have here is a soft target that terrorists are attacking - why not protect them?

They prefer false sense of security and luxury comforts vs actual security. As long as they feel safe, it's fine. How they get there, it doesn't matter and they call it progress
