I thought it was very brave of them to have a main character that was Clearly Still Evil (takes one to know one...), and i'm glad they did, else I would have found the past three seasons unwatchable. (I *loathed* the poor handling of Starlight's "redemption" in the s5 finale; but as I realised she was Clearly Still Evil, it made a sort of sense; from her view, Darth Sparkle had asked to joi her and rule the galaxy together and she was like "oh tarteruses, yes.")
S9 had been off to a grand start (especially the opener), in my opinion; out of the first seven episodes, the two I didn't care for centred around the characters I've never really warmed to, the new six.

"I'm sorry I forgot to reinstall all the jet engine parts correctly and almost caused a multi million dollar accident that could have killed dozens. It's okay because it was caught by the flight crew just before takeoff, right?"Trinary wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 1:44 amI agree with both points. While Lightning Dust was insanely out of control, she was encouraged and abetted at every step by Spitfire and the Wonderbolt trainers--or, best case scenario, they weren't really paying close enough attention which, you know, is kinda their job. So yeah, I'm more annoyed at Spitfire than at Lightning Dust and do think it's a bit abrupt that Dust was kicked out without ever having a chance to adjust herself to the new standards.Cheerilee wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 8:08 amLightning Dust wasn't the problem in that episode, Spitfire was. Lightning Dust just recognized the Wonderbolts for what they truly were...Spitfire would rather watch an illness-ridden Ponyville crash into absolute failure (with whatever real-world consequences come with that) than step up and disqualify the clearly-failed team by setting down her judge's clipboard and helping them across the finish line.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 3:31 am You would not believe the amount of Lightning Dust apologists I argued with. @_@
Honestly these episodes made me start to think that the Wonderbolts are a corrupt organization.
Odd thing? In the script there was originally a scene at the end where Lightning Dust was Rainbow's wingpony, and Lightning Dust expressed her agreement with the decision and her willingness to follow Rainbow's lead. It got cut, I guess for time, but the episode reference guide (https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Harmony ... way&sr=8-1) actually has that included in the description of the episode. So maybe that was cannon? At least until "The Washouts" aired...weird.
No... no it's not okay.
"Almost killed people" and "almost caused a multi million dollar crash" are very big transgressions in the military (and the pseudo military of Equestria), and Lightning Dust is lucky she's not in the brig.

My reading of the Lightning Dust situation was always "Imagine if somebody at boot camp took a tank and drove it into a park, running out of gas or switching it off when it was inches from a family on a picnic". She should count herself lucky not to be in prison, however malign and apathetic the Wonder Bolts authority figures may be.
"Believe me, there’s nothing so terrible that someone won’t support it."
