I think it's pretty obvious that people don't particularly like being preached at in their entertainment. Anything that has a message, but doesn't take the time and effort to integrate that message into an entertaining story, is going to inspire negative opinions.
If a 'cheap shot' is a low-effort insult, there is the equivalent but opposite concept of a minimal-commitment-and-effort advocacy. Trying to support a position, but doing so without integrating it into a story and without investing any real emotional weight into the issue. Putting up a flag and expecting people to salute, so to speak.
I think that's behind most of the potential examples that could be used to support "Go Woke, Go Broke" - it's bargain-basement advocacy making weak stories even less appealing.
There is a huge difference between the whole thing around the last Charlie's Angels movie for example and seeing two same sex people kissing or worse having a POC in a major role. Like Refa from Kenobi. There is a difference between just liking her character due to acting or just role versus calling her a woke character.
And that is the issue with the anti-woke crowd. There is no preaching or lecturing of having a same sex couple kiss, having a POC character in a major role. There is no character from the sides narrating saying 'now there is a normal interaction we should all strive for.'

I think the preaching is implicit. Like the way hospital shows always have a black doctor, even though less than 3% of doctors in the US are African-American.
But then, I think television and movies put far too much emphasis on romance and sexuality, heterosexual or otherwise, so it's not as though I have a horse in this race.

I do agree with your on romance and sexuality, part of the reason I only watch kids tv or shows from the 90's or before. Although my stats says it is 5% not under 3% for black doctors.
Perhaps things have changed somewhat in the last twenty years - likely a marked increase in demand for tokens, and a lowering of standards. But there's simply no way the proportion of black doctors will approach their fraction of the population, no more than the population of Jewish doctors will, unless steps are taken to ignore merit.

Or maybe an increase of qualified black doctors.
Becoming a doctor requires absorbing a whole lot of information, to the point that the IQ average is 125 and it's considered virtually impossible for people less than 115 to make it. Look at the normal distribution, and determine what percentage of African-Americans are potentially qualified to be doctors.

Eh, still don't buy fully attributing this increase to just tokenism and drop in standards.
