For any other name I wouldn't have been happy. But for Barrett, I'd accept it.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 4:15 pmYou're not wrong. I wonder though if they had gone slightly meta and called her ''Barrett'' whether anyone would moan. Nice way to honour Star Trek's first woman bridge officer imo and it is very hard to say that she wasn't shafted by the execs. Competent officer wearing trousers to slightly soppy fanservice nurse isn't really a step up.

In Memory Alpha, they say that some "non-canon" publication called her "Leigh Udec." Majel Barrett was credited as "M. Leigh Udec" in "The Menagerie" because NBC fired her when she played Number One in "The Cage." They wanted to hide to NBC that Number One and Nurse Christine Chapel were played by the same actress.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 4:15 pmYou're not wrong. I didn't hear it but some people are claiming Pike called her Una at some point in the episode. I already cancelled my trial so I will leave it to other more dedicated folks if anybody wants to confirm or debunk that.

Which could be short for Udec. Pretty nice gesture but I would have preferred the whole way.Zoinksberg wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 5:26 pm I didn't hear it but some people are claiming Pike called her Una at some point in the episode. “Number One” was never going to get a name, at least from my understanding as that would have been part of her gimmick if Jeffery Hunter’s show got picked up. If it had I’m sure at some point in that show’s run we would have had her name get revealed at some point. Sulu and Uhura didn’t get their first names until after the series was cancelled.
Re: Star Trek Discovery season 2 megathread
I don't remember that. However, Memory Alpha says that she was given the name "Una" in a Discovery novel. I don't believe it's official.Zoinksberg wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 5:26 pm I didn't hear it but some people are claiming Pike called her Una at some point in the episode. Una actually stands for "one", feminine gender.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2019 6:28 pmWhich could be short for Udec. That finale sucked, and I'm not watching season 3.
Fuck this garbage show and the horse it rode in on.

Somehow, it doesn't surprise me to hear Worffan101 say that, and while I'm sympathetic, and have addressed my issues with this sudden shake-up to the show and how it would have been better to do it in a fresh series, well... I'm at least cautious maybe it will be better. Probably won't, but you never know.

So I just watched the episode where the mystic Klingon shows Pike a vision of his future. Seemed pretty grim, hope the guy turns out okay.
