Also, women make up roughly half the world's population, so targeting them as a demographic at the risk of alienating the tiny minority of men who get butthurt about "feminist" things is a pretty safe financial bet. And things are even starting to shift where pushing a radical gay agenda is a safer financial bet because, however loud and politically potent, the people who get offended by a same-sex kiss in a kids movie are vastly outnumbered by the number of people who would appreciate it or wouldn't mind it.

Disney goes with the safest possible middle-of-the-road, non-controversial agenda-minimal politics. If you think anything they have EVER produced comes vanishingly close to even TRYING to be "woke", then you're probably reactionary and extremist even by gamer youtube standards.

Indeed, Disney owned the childhood of girls before it bought Marvel and Star Wars.

Now it owns the childhood of boys too.

But girls were the first part of their world domination scheme.

Because applying your logic to it means that it must be applied to all Star Treks for all races. How do you choose to resolve discrimination according to your criteria that covers all races?
Oh come, come, we can note other things. For instance if we had a white transgender straight man, that'd probably be "Woke". Hell, if we had a white, cisgender, straight Muslim man, that'd be "Woke" instead of a "proper white man" as well.

And remember, if the white cisgender straight man has any character flaws or imperfections that cause him to be sidelined while the rest of the cast handles things, it's an entire "Woke" episode.

Remember we're living in a world where this guy isn't white enough for them:

Of course if I point out that their definition of "white" appears to be using the southern "one drop" rule, I'd be a terrible, terrible person, wouldn't I?

This is the first show that doesn't feature a heterosexual white male in the main cast that has consistently been there from the start, with Lorca and Pike being essentially guest roles for each season. Supposedly by the third season there won't be any in the cast. It'll only consists of females, gays, an alien, and Aldis Hodge. Any sane person would regard that as trivial, but I'm sure we can find folks on twitter and youtube "outraged" over the lack of white hetero males, a specific demo which has dominated the role of the protagonist for so long.
Kind of an invert of "The Cage", which seemed to mainly consist of an entirely white cast before NBC suggested featuring a more diverse cast, as other shows like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE have.
What a terrible argument you just made. Are you basically saying that just because there are a lot of heterosexual white men in Star Trek that I should never expect any going forward? What you've just done there is advocate for discrimination.
Y'know what? I'm going to call it and I don't care who I piss off saying it: Martin Luther King would be disgusted by this attitude. This is not the world he wanted, he wanted equality, not ''The Cage'' in reverse where white men now cannot get work and have all criticisms of this practice dismissed as trivial.

I am never going to stop calling this shit for what it is: racism and sexism against the only class left that it is socially acceptable to be racist and sexist towards.
Wow.     I was making an observation, not advocating or inciting a race war against white male heterosexuals. Stop being so fragile and offended like you accuse the left.

Martin Luther King Jr. is dead. Please don't use him as an imaginary black friend.

Guys, it's white, heterosexual, allosexual, cisgendered, Christian, males... over forty/fifty...

If even one of those is wrong it's bad- I mean 'woke'... and thus, bad...

This is how Whiteness is generally discussed in the US anyways mind.

Like, how often do we describe Barack Obama as bi-racial?

Blood quantums are more often a concern among the particular group, whereas whiteness isn't as precise and is more sensitive to subjective parameters as it is a behavioral state among the dominant or more normalized culture.

If you "target" or "represent" any group, no matter how large, for any reason other than because it's a natural fit for your story, a plausible representation of what you'd expect to get (and the type of story will of course possibly be aimed at certain groups, nothing wrong with that, different people like different things) then you're doing it for all the wrong reasons.
