New cases in the U.S. are trending down, too. Not for every state; California's more iffy, and some states that weren't hit as hard are trending sideways.

As the weather gets colder, that might reverse. Didn't think I was actually going to get optimistic, did you?

The fear is of a second wave once we hit flu season. You catch flu, it lowers the immune system of even healthy and young people, and then you catch Covid - a disease that you probably could have fought off if you hadn't caught flu and vice versa. The common cold is also capable of this to a lesser degree.

Pity we live in a society whereby twats on the internet have spread so many rumours about flu vaccines innit?

Also a normal flu season already fills up hospitals, flu plus covid would mean we'd have people in critical condition from one or the other that there aren't any beds for.

Of course up to 40% of COVID cases may leave you with permanent lung damage. So when the next disease kills you, it won't really be that disease, it will be the pre-existing condition caused by COVID!

One that is hardly ever reported is who is hospitalized as opposed to those who are positive with no ill effects. That is a better indication of the survival rate than a total amount of who got it.

Here's a fun thought experiment i've been running: How do you see September 2021? If where you live is anything like the UK, the retail and travel industry is probably changed forever.

For us, the big problem as I see it is homeworkers. A lot of people back in March left their offices and have not come back, the biggest problem being that it has left our shopping districts as literal ghost towns. It is a fact that most coffee shops see the bulk of their business from workers during breakfast and lunch. No workers, no custom. It also harms buses, taxies, trains as less people are using them.

There are redundancies everywhere. Hundreds of thousands of jobs that I just do not see coming back.

We were so lucky back in 2019. And the sad thing is, we didn't even realise it.

On the upside, less air pollution due to less traffic and generally more people working from home, which only ever got to a work-place because that was cheaper for the employer than paying for the home-office infrastructure. There are upsides to this year of BS.

Yes and no. The team was eliminated, but members were absorbed into a different group that included pandemic response. The whole thing was streamlined, but we kept pandemic response.

I completely agree. I have a respect for distrust of authority, but it's not without its downside. The people who think the earth is flat are unfortunate but pretty much unimportant; they won't be doing geodesic surveying or piloting intercontinental flights. But people who think that vaccinations are government mind control will do real harm.

Besides, government mind control was handled with fluoride. Yes, some people apparently believe that. Some days my eyes roll hard enough to provide spin stabilization to my entire head.
