They did. And they did it with a Patriot-missile. But then again, hypersonic missiles are mostly bullshit-buzzword-bingo anyways.
Well that one at least works, and it'll still be harder to stop. But generally you're right, Russia, like Nazi Germany did, has gone off the deep end obsessing with super duper wonder weapons rather than getting the basics right.

The basics are hard, and boring, and can't be used as symbolic stand-ins for sexual virility.

This is some funny shit. Russia had a SINGLE TANK at its Victory Day parade.

Less amusingly, they also cancelled the ''Immortal Regiment Parade.'' This is an genuinely moving event where families of dead soldiers would march holding up photos of their loved ones. No prizes for guessing why that was cancelled. Can't have the Special Military Operation referenced in public.

Russia getting ever more desperate. Maybe you heard, that the Russians are unmothballing T55s and everyone's first reaction was: They're never going to use these tanks, which are essentially World War 2 tanks by design (the T-54 prototype left the workshop in late 1945), at the front lines. They're going to use them as training vehicles and rear-area reserves. Well... They've been spotted at the frontlines. With cope-cages... (Link leads to Telegram)

So here's the thing about using WW2 era tanks in 2023: they can still kill infantry who do not have anti-tank weaponry just as well as they did then. You can roll them through a town and massacre everyone there and be home in time for borscht. Its only against other tanks or aircraft that they are finished - which Ukraine doesn't have for the most part. And lets be honest, its not as if their modern vehicles are faring well against Javelins either.

I agree it is hilarious that they've reached this stage. But it is perhaps not ridiculous.

Against those Leopard 2s pouring into Ukraine now T55s are target practice.

You can say that with any semi-armored vehicle if you don't have the weapons to destroy it. WW2 planes too, if you don't have the ability to shoot them down, they can definitely do some damage.
I got nothing to say here.

That's the problem. The means to destroy them is not hard to find even in WW2 (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panzerfaust). It was not perfect, but they say it killed more American and Russian tanks than the Panzers and today even the poorer nations have stuff that make the Panzerfaust look like a bottle rocket.

Yeah. It's not like modern tanks are now armored with some future super strong but light armor that makes them immune to any WW2 era weapon. There is some debate now that tanks night be becoming expensive white elephants.
