Chuck's review of Gargoyles episode "Grief?"

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Chuck's review of Gargoyles episode "Grief?"

Post by Yukaphile »

Mostly asking this because I really want to see the voice of Tony Jay in one of his reviews!

Chuck hasn't done a whole lot of Gargoyles. He gets requests but its not pushed along by one of his patreons like Babylon 5 or Transformers are so its a rare sight. He hasn't even done anything past City of Stone, let alone the Avalon trilogy, so it seems unlikely any world tour episodes are coming any time soon since there's be a lot of extra context and story to cover in order explain even the premise of the world tour.

I'm not privy to whats on his queue so I have no actual idea, but just knowing what episodes are fan favorites I would have to assume episodes like High Noon, Revelations, Double Jeopardy to be requested first, and from the world tour I would think an episode like Sanctuary or Kingdom or Future Tense would be favorites to be picked first, and maybe Monsters (the Loch Ness episodes) for being over the top bad.

A random one off world tour episode just doesn't seem at all likely to be picked out and donated for, not without some stronger connection to Chuck's other material, like one of the (many) episodes that had a Star Trek actor on it.

I love Tony Jay myself but there's other works he's been in besides a one of Gargs episode. He was in an episode of TNG, The Cost of Living, so we'll get to that eventually. I'd love to see Chuck handle the Soul Reaver series at some point, but those are such a convoluted mishmash of multiple games it'd be awkward.

When Chuck closed up the request queue a few years ago, he left a brief "window" for request of shows that he already had done episodes of, and me being a huge Gargoyles fan (I consider it the best TV series -both live action and animated- of all times) couldn't help but donate for 20 episodes (didn't have the budget for more). Chuck told me that "Vows" was already in the queue (someone had donated for it), so I proceeded to request the following 20 episodes, which (in addition to "Vows") mostly focus on the main arc(s) of the series (thus "Grief" isn't one of them):

1.Reawakening
2.Legion
3.High Noon
4.Outfoxed
5.The Price
6.Avalon, Part 1
7.Avalon, Part 2
8.Avalon, Part 3
9.Sanctuary
10.Walkabout
11.Eye of the Storm
12.Cloud Fathers
13.Ill met by Moonlight
14.Future Tense
15.The Gathering, Part 1
16.The Gathering, Part 2
17.Possession
18.Hunter’s Moon, Part 1
19.Hunter’s Moon, Part 2
20.Hunter’s Moon, Part 3

Obviously none of these episodes (not even Vows) has appeared yet, but I knew that his queue for animated series is some years-long deep (and there have been many personal problems for him) that I'm ok with patiently waiting for the episodes to finally come one day, whenever that is, and I haven't (and won't) "push" him to do them quicker than he wants to.

Exactly the one I hoped to see in that list.

Wow, a credit to you! I wish I'd had the funds at the time, and the knowledge that someone else was going in so deep, I would have filled out some of the gaps. (I did do that when he opened up an application for more Beast Wars though) Looks like you got basically all the really important stuff though!

Sanctuary might be slightly confusing without DOuble Jeopardy before it, but oh well. "Goliath's evil twin clone, long story. Actually no, that about sums it up" will probably do.

@RobbyB1982: maybe by the time Chuck gets around to doing the episodes he'll allow new commissions so you, me, or someone else can fill in some of the gaps (you're right I should have thought to include Thailog's first appearance)

I remember a while ago (about a year) I requested Silver Falcon and Protection (pretty sure it's Protection if not it's the one where Eliza goes undercover and pretends to work with Dracon) I found that those two especially Silver Falcon are highlights of the show. Showing her doing actual detective work and seeing realistic reactions from everyone involved really elevated those two.
