I don't think a nation getting read of passports for citizens leads anywhere good.

Is the news site that one cites and is a little more indepth. And by a little I mean barely.
But basically some bureaucrat was being a pain. And this is not new.
I am former Air Force, I went in without knowing how to drive and got my license at my permanent duty base, back in the 90's. When I returned home to NJ guess what form of ID they had issue with for granting me a Drivers License. My birth certificate. They wanted a notarized photocopy from the hospital I was born at. Of course that hospital does not exist anymore. Not even the building. And I was initially told then I may not drive in my home state. I was holding the issued birth certificate with raised seal in my hand. It took three months to get them to just photocopy it.
So again this is not new just another day with pencil pushers.
