So SF Debris Is Gonna Do Red Dwarf In October?
So SF Debris Is Gonna Do Red Dwarf In October?
Why, freaking why?. I hate Red Dwarf, I hate the fact it's to this day filmed in front of a studio audience. I wish after Back To Earth they ditched the studio audience. But no they did not. That's why it still sucks to this day. I heard in season 12 they recreated the first episode and brought back Holly and the Captian and the studio audience in the Dave era went nuts......which is why I wish if RD comes back for a 13th season the studio audience needs to fucking never come back at all

You hate it - I love it. I would genuinely rate it as superior to a good portion of the Trek that we have had in the last two decades.GrantM wrote: ↑Tue Sep 18, 2018 8:57 pm Why, freaking why?. I don't get why you hate the laughter being genuine? RD is not science fiction, it is a comedy set in space and having others to laugh along with enhances the experience. That's why laughter tracks do not work because deep down you know that you are giggling along to no one at all.
That said I am really looking forward to the review of that episode because the jokes were great, the return of Holly was awesome... and yet it shot continuity completely out of the water as it had Rimmer (who has personally met two Ace Rimmers, saw a planetary ring made out of the corpses of a million Ace Rimmers and became one himself) searching the multiverse for a Rimmer that sucks less than he does(?). This COULD of course be the nano replicated version of him from season 8, but he seems to have all of the memories of the original Rimmer so WTF?

Welcome to the forum.
Straight to it I guess: I respectfully but completely disagree.
I am curious why you know so much about the series and are so concerned about the presence of an audience for series 13 if you so utterly loathe the show? If you hate it so much, and you are quite free to of course, why do you watch it or follow its production?

Yeah, it doesn't really matter whether the laughter is the cued applause of an audience or canned audio in the mixing room, it's annoying. Isn't it a little less common on British shows, anyway?

If it was a laugh track it would be awful. The audience's live laughter is fine with me. I greatly enjoy the show and the Dave revival isn't bad considering the hiatus.

If it makes you feel any better I've been waiting for him to get to Ergo Proxy for years. Between an enormous queue and patreon supporters who apparently aren't all that interested in a very underrated sci-fi, it just doesn't seem to be happening.

Not to mention all of the things that happen in real life that are setbacks. Just look at "Return of the Jedi" has been pushed from "this summer" to "September" to "sometime in the future".
I am in agreement over the nixing of the laughing, prerecorded or live doesn't matter. It makes it hard to hear what the characters are saying in shows, it's distracting, and that also leaves the insertion of beats for the applause or laughter. I tend to find any shows with laughing inserted (legitimate or fake) to be actually less funny than stuff without it.

(This is why I never post on forums when drunk)......okay then since the general concencus is "why complain about it if you don't watch it. Here's the thing, I used to watch the show as a kid (guess I was more forgiving to studio audiences back then), in fact I watched season 8 when it originally aired on the BBC back in 1999 (one time I ever watched a complete RD season when it aired from start to finish), then when season 10 aired I did legit give it a shot but just gave up.
The sad thing is I like the idea of RD, I just wish it wasn't produced the way it was (in front of an audience) because to me it kills any form of immersion and enjoyment when the actors have to constantly pause (it's understandable in a stage show, but in a sitcom where the audience is essentially treated as a non-entity it just does not work). Even moreso in a long running sitcom where the audience is wildly cheering everything (I heard the last 2 episodes of RD XII suffer from that greatly)

Eh, I just skip the reviews of stuff I'm not interested in. The only thing that bums me out is, like I said, because it means that something I'm looking forward to is being pushed back that much further. I'm sure there are fans of Red Dwarf who are happy, though, which is what he's even reviewing it.

You know he's already done Red Dwarf? Like a lot. The first reviews were Voyager and Red Dwarf. I'm not sure why this is so surprising. Maybe I've just been following him too long at this point.
