Will Chuck ever review Yu Yu Hakusho?

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Will Chuck ever review Yu Yu Hakusho?

Post by Yukaphile »

I'd LOVE to see his thoughts on that series! I requested up to 70+ episodes from the poparena, but then we had our huge falling out, and meh. Water under the bridge. I do hope he covers the Adult Swim dub, because the censorship on Toonami was fucking ridiculous. When Yusuke fought Doctor, they treated it as though he could take a "third option" and knock Doctor out of his territory (), when instead, the Adult Swim version, more true to the original source material, flat-out made it... will Yusuke finally be forced to kill a human to save so many lives? And yes, HE DOES. Or how they turned Chuu into a weird idiot who was more skilled than he looked, when he is FLAT-OUT a drunkard who is a master at drunken fighting. LOVE THE ADULT SWIM DUB! Hell, I'd say it's fair to conclude I love Yu Yu Hakusho more than Dragon Ball Z! Yu Yu Hakusho is complex, gritty, dark, full of realistic feelings and grounded powerset. It also is a pure deconstruction of shonen. The Dark Tournament is not your typical honorable, fair-minded Tenkaichi Budokai, it is flat-out about corruption at the highest levels. Hope he does!

That seems unlikely. Nor Dragonball or HunterXHunter or One Piece or any other super lengthy fight happy shonen series.

The pacing of those shows mean he by default would have to cover multiple episodes or whole arcs at a time, cover hundreds of episodes to get any real content from it, and constantly go to his joke of "and they fight and they fight and they fight and they fight." speeding through entire multiple episodes at a time where its just an action beat. I mean, if he goes that route on like Star Trek where the fights are a minute or two long, what can he do with fights that last *hours*?

Look at how long it took him to do the 52 episode Full Moon, or things like Escaflowne and Gurren Laggan and Cowboy Bebop which are all short and he's only half way through even years and years later. Heck, he hasn't even done all of Firefly yet and that's super short.

Battle shonen would be a bad match for CHuck's schedule and skill set, there's probably other reviewers out there to handle that.

Well, I've been tempted to ask for 'em. Along with ReBoot.

Of all shonen fight anime, I think Yu Yu Hakusho would be uniquely suited to review. I mean, it's more grounded than Dragon Ball. And there's some deep, heavy-plot stuff, especially in Chapter Black. It's not just endless punching.

Just because YYH goes off the rails in its third arc doesn't mean it's not endless punching. A full 1/2 of the series in a single tournament arc. And I love the Dark Tournament, but it IS a lot of punching.

Not to mention the anime skips the early solo ghost stories, or that the entire ending of the series with the Three Kings is ANOTHER tournament that is super rushed and ends on an anti-climax because Togashi stopped giving a shit.
