"The Event" from the Evangleion 3.33 review
I'm curious where this weird British Comedy routine came from? And how old is it?

It is part of a series of sketches from the Mitchell and Webb Look comedy show called The Quiz Broadcast. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/That_Mitchell_and_Webb_LookMithrandirOlorin wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2019 11:21 pm I'm curious where this weird British Comedy routine came from? And how old is it?

The past tempts us, the present confuses us, the future frightens us. And our lives slip away moment by moment lost in that vast, terrible in-between.

Is it me or is this show basically a deconstruction of teenager get giant robot trope, by having the teenager make things worst.

It's a deconstruction of a lot of things, but without the context from the time in which it was made, a lot of that gets lost.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 1:33 am Is it me or is this show basically a deconstruction of teenager get giant robot trope, by having the teenager make things worst.
Eva itself has become the example most people are familiar with.

One of the most confusing deconstructions is soldier-boy's confused sexual intrest in Asuka, come on man just impregnate her if you boast your damn ego!
Other than that, the review tastes like mildly cooked eggs before Chuck drowned the in 30 yr-old rum. "Oh is the government not caring enough for the human race? Well have some more needless inner-conflict that smells as bad as Enterprise's: Trip's unwashed pj's."

Do not pity a Slave for the Slave-Lord, but hear the power of what Chaos can be.
All Beings bow before the children of he who bound their flesh by their words.
Fall and wail, all flesh, bone, soul,& power is a servant to Yun-man, the First Slave-Lord.

That's exactly what it was. You have to go back for the 90's for proper context and compare it to the Gigantors and Gundams and Macross of the past before it.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 1:33 am Is it me or is this show basically a deconstruction of teenager get giant robot trope, by having the teenager make things worst.
Eva was big and influential enough that it shifted giant robot series pretty much forever after that. Now if you watch any giant robot show now, you know ultimately there's going to be some mind screws along the way no matter how ncie it seems, because that's just part o the genre now.
Also, the director kind of went nuts and they ran out of money. It stopped being about the actual plot well before the end and more about sorting out Anno's therapy.
Fans were, understandably, upset when the series ended the way it did, with no ending and a weird couch sessions with Shinji, which works on a thoguht level but not a story level... so they later aquiested and did a movie to *actually* wrap things up... and proceeded to do the biggest "screw you" possible in The End of Eva which is just layers upon layers of disturbing messed up sequences.
Then for some reason a decade later they trusted them to redo the series as movies and "get it right this time" but then that, of course, went off the rails. They STARTED in 2002, and scheduled for all four of them to come out by 2008 and 2009. The third movie ended up in 2012 and the last one is running about 15 years late total but will supposedly be out this year. Supposedly. (But with Corona who knows.)
I'm sure it will be very disappointing for anyone that has waited 23 years for the real ending.
