X of Swords - First big X-men event post House of X

Post by GreyICE »

So the first big event is on us, and it's X of Swords (pronounced "Ten of Swords"). What is it? Well, our best hint so far is this:

Very early on in X-men we were introduced to Arakko and Summoner - an island inhabited by demons, and a being who summons demons. Then in the pages of Excalibur we have references to Apocalypse's original four horsemen - the first set he made. It was stated that he sent them through to hell, and that he himself remained behind. If that's the case, then his four horsemen have been fighting the forces of hell itself for thousands of years (Apocalypse predates the bronze age by millenia, and by the time Egypt rolled around he'd been doing the 4 horsemen trick).

So here we might have the original War and the original Death - the very first horsemen created by Apocalypse. We might also get some insight into the backstory of Apocalypse - which despite decades of comics has actually remained quite murky, along with his actual power set.

Anyway, what do people think? I figure this would be a nice read-along/discussion as this event rolls.

We've already been pinning down his power set, with it being possible that shapeshifting and immortality are his actual mutant powers and the rest is a mix of magic use and celestial technology. It also might hint WHY he was given celestial technology - if he was all that was standing between humanity and hell, it explains it. And it explains his "might is all that matters" philosophy.

So yeah, I'm actually quite excited for this. It's been planned for a while, and it's the first big enemy reveal for the X-Men since the House of X established Mastermold and Nimrod were going to be featured heavily in this tale.
