Qanon and nerds - did we break the world?

Qanon and nerds - did we break the world?

Post by CharlesPhipps »

Anyone else feel like they live in an altered reality when they realize the Q thing is something millions of people believe in?

Here's the thing, gamers and nerds of all stripes should be the LEAST vulnerable to this bullshit because *I* (and plenty of others) was THERE at 4chan when this idiocy was conceived. It was always a joke and an internet augmented reality game. It's like turning to the news and discovering, "New Senator candidate firm believer in Slenderman. More Slenderman candidates are being nominated."

It's even more ridiculous because since Q doesn't exist, most of his messages come from conmen trying to up their fucking Patreon donations. It was exposed a while ago.

And yet, it just keeps growing and growing.

When you remember that the Republican party has actively tried to prevent the teaching of critical thinking skills and the voting Republican is inversely correlated with education, it makes a lot more sense. The Republicans have spent 50 years turning themselves into the party of racists, morons, and racist morons with Q-anon as the logical final result.

It's plausible. At least I guess when you consider that a lot of people act on severely limited facts anyway.

I'm sure a lot of people don't actually believe it and are just trolling, or at best they see themselves as exaggerating and playing the political game.

As to those who actually believe it...well, there is no greater fool than the one who says "I won't be fooled". The ones who think they are not vulnerable to believing in untrue or nonsensical things because they are too smart or skeptical or whatever are the same ones who are too stubborn or proud to admit when they do.

I'm an atheist. I'm used to being surrounded by people who believe in something I think is ridiculous - so yeah, I can believe that people actually believe this. No offence intended.

It is so weird to agree with you on something that I worry I might have fallen into the mirror universe.

Oh, my sweet summer child.

As for it being weird that people who were there when it was a joke are falling for it, remember it takes about one year for an attitude to go from irony to sincerity. That's why I'm very careful about ironically enjoying bad music.

It takes even less time with jokes about fetishes, so never spend more than 30 minutes on one of those.

Speaking as a Christian theist.

Yes, I find this much more ridiculous.

The least plausible part of this conspiracy is that there are powerful pedophiles who use child blood to extend their life and the president hasn't called them Very Fine People or been photographed with them at a fundraiser.

I find it fascinating that there really was a human trafficking child ring for billionaires and then the conspiracy got WEIRDER

Like, they had to add Jewish vampires because reality one upped them.
