Remember any time republicans talk about freeze Peach, they mean their speech and nobody else's. The book banning in schools was just a preamble. This threatens the right of Barnes and Noble to sell books to adults, and the right of adults to own those books.

It's high time we colonize other planets, so the religious nutjobs can emigrate to create their much vaunted paradise elsewhere, like they did back in the 16th century. Just this time we need to be smart enough, to not send our free thinkers away along the same route.

The article isn't clear imo. Are these just books being sold in bookstores or are they actually in schools? Because that left bottom image clearly shows a graphically-detailed sex scene. Frankly, i'm not surprised that parents would have a problem with their kids reading books with sex scenes in them, gay or not.

We could just B Ark it and tell them that's what we're doing while launching them out in a random direction.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 10:14 pm It's high time we colonize other planets, so the religious nutjobs can emigrate to create their much vaunted paradise elsewhere, like they did back in the 16th century. You don't shoot in random directions in space. You are going to ruin someone's day, somewhere and sometime.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 11:47 pmWe could just B Ark it and tell them that's what we're doing while launching them out in a random direction.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 10:14 pm It's high time we colonize other planets, so the religious nutjobs can emigrate to create their much vaunted paradise elsewhere, like they did back in the 16th century. A holy grenade lobbed into a random direction in space is even worse.

I dunno, I don't think allowing them to inflict their ideology on their children without the interference of secular society is such a hot idea either.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 10:14 pm It's high time we colonize other planets, so the religious nutjobs can emigrate to create their much vaunted paradise elsewhere, like they did back in the 16th century. If you believe this person believes in anything about God other than it how it helps them in office, I have a bridge to sell you.

Painfully true and it's so easy to see. Yet still, literally millions of people who want to be decent folks flock to them to fuel their hopes and dreams. I'll never get why.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 7:50 am If you believe this person believes in anything about God other than it how it helps them in office, I have a bridge to sell you.

While I agree that the world would be better without such ideologies, whose to say that yours is that much better? Any world view is equally as valid and can only be judged based on their outcomes and even rating these outcomes is something that can be wildly discussed about. You find the idea abhorrent to burn someone on a stake. At the same time, you feel good when a russian tank blows up in Ukraine. They have a right to teach their children their believes and world view, just as you do. The line in the sand is, when they force you to teach your children their ideology and vice versa or we force each other to live in a way counter to our wishes. The only thing we can realistically do is, to always present open arms and help people who want to get out unconditionally.

It's notable how God seems to approve of everything a certain breed of white fundamentalist Southerner (or descendant of Southerner) and hate everything from other churches or ideologies.
Re: B&N Sued for selling queer book and straight romance
Well, maybe interference is a bit strong. But when people head out into the world, they're exposed to all kinds of different ideas. Sometimes they take hold, sometimes they don't. You let the radicals go off to Mars, or Ceres, or Alpha Centauri, or wherever, that's not going to happen or it's going to happen at a drastically lower rate.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:11 am While I agree that the world would be better without such ideologies, whose to say that yours is that much better? Well, in abstract. There's something rather different about watching someone being burnt alive as a public spectacle and an adversarial foreign power suffering defeats in a war. If the Ukrainians were burning Russian soldiers like Jesse Washington, I'm pretty sure public opinion would turn decidedly against Ukraine.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:11 amYou find the idea abhorrent to burn someone on a stake. Well that's kind of how public education works, isn't it? Whether you teach something or not, you're making a political statement. The most apolitical you can really get is just making it really milquetoast.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:11 amThe line in the sand is, when they force you to teach your children their ideology and vice versa or we force each other to live in a way counter to our wishes.
In an ideal world, education's the great equalizer. Moves people towards a common language, gives people a similar cultural background, helps them move up economically. It's like Imperial China, except everyone needs to develop the same cultural background because in a democracy the rulers are everyone.
It's already hard enough when it involves crossing a national border. You really want to add, "need to find a rocketship" to that?Madner Kami wrote: ↑Mon May 30, 2022 11:11 amThe only thing we can realistically do is, to always present open arms and help people who want to get out unconditionally.
