When reality copies some of the most frightful images of the youth

Post by Madner Kami »

We fly through the endless darkness of space, peering through a violet nebula, a blue and red twin star system comes into our view and as we look closer, we notice a strange planetoidal object drifting through space in between those stars. Looking closer, this object seems to have a circular recession on it's equator, emanating a strange glow. Following the trajectory of this glowing, gazing eye, it seems to be observing a planet orbiting the twin stars and only now do we realize, that this planetoid is taking course onto said planet, fixing it with it's glare. As the object closes in the planet, the tidal disruptions wreak havoc on said planet and suddenly, two pincer-like... appandages extend from the rim of the eye through space and they... dig deep into the planet's crust, dragging it closer to the planetoid's "eye" and only now do we realize and understand: This is no glowing, gazing eye. It's a mouth and the planet vanishes into this voracious, planet-sized maw, fueling an incredibly ancient and unfathomably hungry machine of a planetary scale, which moves on from the site of the cosmic cataclysm, as if nothing ever happened. You sit back in your seat, taking your eyes away from the cosmic horror you just observed and sigh in relief about the fact, that this is just an animated movie for children from 1986. You rest comfortable in the certainty, that this insatiable hunger will never have to be satisfied and that this hungry gaze will never fall upon you.

Later, while your kids are in bed, you can finally relax with putting some time into your own interests and recently, you found the most relaxation by just gazing at the stars through your telescope and so you do tonight as well. You read earlier that day, that astronomers found a strange object in space, just 300 lightyears away and you've been curious, whether you can trap it's light in your eyes and see for yourself. You adjust your telescope to gaze upon this object and your body realizes faster than your conciousness, sending chilling waves down your spine, that you're not alone in gazing into the void tonight. The star, this strange object, gazes as well and has set it's glowing eye on you...
