Since I've started to fall off the "Don't talk about the Bloody Disney Sequel Trilogy" Wagon I'm going to share an theory I had a while back, that theory being, whether or not The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is actually an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
I had actually posted this theory over on Deviant Art back in 2020 so for those who want a more in depth look at my theory you can go read it there.

For those who just want the short version, at least by my low standards, here it is.
The basic idea of this is that Midna is the Beast, Link and Zelda share the role of Belle aka the Beauty, the role of Gaston is played by Zant, the Enchantress is given to both Zelda and Ganondorf and the later is also the Curse that changed the Beast.
It was honestly kind of surprising how well the story of TP fitted BATB and, IMHO, it also made the story of TP even better when viewed this way as it changes how I viewed the story. Zant as the pathetic and jealous Gaston who hates the Beast for having something or someone he feels is his on the grounds that he wants it. Link and Zelda who love the Beast be it as friends or lovers, (though the Manga makes it clear that Link and Midna are romantically in love while Midna and Zelda have a shit load of ship teases or at the very least same sex subtext) and Ganondorf as the Curse that must be broken to restore Midna to her true form which is done by her loved ones.
TP is often overlooked a bit more today due to many feeling it's just a remake of Ocarina of Time but honestly I don't really see it and it honestly it does so much right that I can't help but love it. Midna is my favorite possible Love Interest for Link, (and Zelda thanks to the Manga) as well as being my favorite character in the series. It has some of my favorite Dungeons in the series and while it drags a bit in the second half the story is honestly really great.
But as an adaptation of one of the most iconic love stories of all time how does it hold up?
Honestly, next to Disney's Animated Version and Cocteau's films I think this is one of the best BATB stories out there. It's not perfect but does it really need to be?

Really it looks like it could be a companion story to the Mario brothers movie by premise.
..What mirror universe?
